Default keys

I lost the keys to my 99 prelude. The dealer said it would be $500 for a new key because of the chip in the key. Does this seem right or am i getting ripped off.

It's for a 99 Prelude! Not an S2000. It will depend upon whether the key is programmable or not. On my 92 Lexus SC, the key is a remote key (no fob, just a button on the key). To replace is expensive as hell since you have to buy 2 keys and a matching chip to install in the car.

I would ask another dealer and don't tell him what the other dealer told you. You can also check on the Prelude forums.

Don't know how the keys compare, but my AP1 ignition and valey keys were approx $30-40 cut at the dealership, each.
