King/Mugen Project SS2000 at GingerMan Raceway
Hi everyone-
If you're interested to see the King/Mugen Project SS2000 trackside, I will be at GingerMan Raceway on Saturday, November 3rd and would be happy to give rides in this car to anyone who requests them, as long as they have a full face helmet. There should be no entry fee at the gate, except if you decide to take your car on the track.
For what it's worth, it's this car:-

Jason Saini, Juliann, Mugen2000 and I will be on hand to answer any questions you may have. We will have two sets of Hoosiers, two sets of Hawk pads, and lots of enthusiastic driving as we goof off in our various cars on the final trackdays of the season up here in the Upper Midwest...
Hope to see you there!

Hi, Nick -
Sounds like a good idea for Gman Tailgate party. Too bad, I wouldn't be able to go at all. That sux. Are you going to take some picture and videos for the event and share it on the board?
Let me know the lap time on that car. I would love to compare it with mine.

Hi Perry-
On the S-03PP, the King/Mugen Project SS2000 was capable of high 1.39.xx laptimes when I drove it. For what it's worth, my old Type R was capable of 1.36.xx times there on "crap" R compound tires.
On the Hoosiers, we are expecting 1.37.xx times.
FYI, for those that do not know, we use an Intercomp in-car lap timer that is triggered by infrared to time the car as accurately as we can.
Too bad you can't make it...
I'm sure Andie Lin would have wanted to drop by too- too bad he lives in Florida now! Wish you were here Andie!!!!

wow, that is a very good lap time. I can loop around Gman in my S2000 with A032R in 1:39.xx with stock everything. and, my BMW will loop in 1:40.xx since it lacks so much HP. Pretty cool, maybe next year, we will meet again. also, my lap time is infrared trigerred by Hot Lap system. So, they are accurrate as well.
Let me know Hoosier lap times after this weekend. Looking forward for it.

Hi Perry-
Here you go...
There were several high HP cars out there yesterday: a 996T, several 911s, a 944T, a Viper racecar, a supercharged S2000, a couple of Mustangs including a Cobra racecar, as well as lower HP cars like Juliann's TTrixie (Audi TT streetcar) several Honda Preludes, a Toyota Celica GT-S, a VW Golf racecar, and a couple of Miatas. Most of the "faster" cars were trailered in. There was also a FF out there too- pretty paintwork, slicks, no wings. That guy was brave as all heck to go out there with the sedans.
This is the first test day on the rebuilt factory motor warranty from Schaumburg Honda- I hadn't really "driven" the car since One Lap, except for a couple of trips to Wisconsin and around town. Needless to say, we checked the oil levels vigorously throughout the day.
We started off the day on the S-03PPs and were timing in at 1.40.xx, not bad for a cold track (air temps @51F in the shade, although some good rubber laid out on the track, some marbles) and street tires, guessing tire pressures at 36F/34R, then dropping the rear 3 psi when hot to calm down the rear. Shocks were set at full stiff front, 3 half turns from full stiff rear. At 10.30am we swapped out to the first set of Hoosiers- both sets were very, very worn out A compound Hoosiers from Jason/Juliann/Brad's inventory of old rubber. We also added more rear wing angle- going from minimum to maximum. With tire pressures/shock settings the same, we immediately whipped off 1.37.xx times! The first set of tires started cording within 25 laps, which was lunchtime anyway...
After lunch we continued testing the car with the second set of tires. Results were very similar, with FTD coming in on the cords of the second set of tires, on very cold track surface, at sunset- a 1.36.xx!!! Needless to say, we feel this car has alot of potential- there's probably a high 1.33.xx lurking in there, under ideal conditions and with fresh tires. This actually coincides very well with my experience with the car compared to other cars I've driven there, so the potential times are not surprising. With some additional chassis tweaking to dial out some unwanted tendencies, I think the times could even dip into the 1.32.xx or faster.
This is a very potent car on a short track like GingerMan. I don't think our settings would work very well at all on a longer track like Road America or Laguna Seca being the other extreme. Like I've said all along, I think the chassis is the weakpoint of the car- not the drivetrain, and with some additional work, it could be stellar. We never had transmission grinding issues, which leads me to think that the transmission overheating/grinding issue is a problem in only 80F+ with the right synchro gearstack.
For what it's worth, our times were competitive with pretty much all the racecars there. When you're passing pretty much all the cars out there at one time or another and not really having an issue with the rearview mirror... As usual, our biggest problem of the day was people not respecting the fact we were usually 10 seconds faster than them, and not letting us by.
A very, very good day of testing- too bad you missed it!

What a great day at the track! We were able to make good progress on setting the car up. It seemed that just like in our autocross car, more rear shock damping helped the car's balance. I'd like to get a stock rear shock dyno'd to see how stiff it is...
Anyhow, let's see... Nick's car + Old tires = 1.36.xx at Gingerman = YIKES! The car was very 'on the edge' everywhere. We'll have to go back in the spring with fresher tires and some more front swaybar and see how it goes. I think 1:33's are feasible. Definitely 1:34's, which is moving pretty good on that track. Exit speed is king, and if we could exit a little higher in Vtec out of a couple corners (fresh tires=cornering speed=exit speed) I think the lap times will really drop. We'll find out!
Thanks again to Nick for letting me wring his car out at the track, and to King for building such a nice project car... and to Honda - for designing a car that is so rewarding to drive!

wow, sounds too cool. The lap time are impressive. I always want to try Hoosier for my S2000. but, I just don't have room to transport it. Maybe next year, I will have a truck and Hosier will be on S2000 for the whole year.
One of the thing that make me uneasy with S2000 is that the back come out too easy for me. I always have problem trusting the car on turn 8 and turn 9. I am afraid I will wipe out on entry of turn 9. so, I always slow down there. I am sure some suspension change is needed. but, what to change?
Maybe I will get to Gingerman with CGI Motorsports sometime next year. Nick. will you show me how to do it right on turn 9?
