I'm new burnouts. What is the point of doing this? Is it some indication of a cars power, or something? I literally just watched part of an episode of Motor Trend Television, and they showed a souped-up Corvette doing the same thing (without moving at all) before taking off in a straight line.

Just curious,
gil

The point of a burnout can be for show or to heat the tires for better traction before a drag race.
Most people just do it to as a 'cool' show of agression and torque.
