I picked up my new Stook last week. I have about 200 miles on the car, but I have noticed a few things with the gear box. Does this gear box like to be warmed up or what? When the car is cold, shifting from 1st to 2nd is very knotchy. No grinding, but knotchy. It's like it needs to fit in the gear just right. I have read about the 1st to 2nd gear TSB, but my issue is not that point. It also likes higher rpm. It shifts better at 4000 to 5000 rpms. Once the car is warmed up, the problems gets better, but it does not go away. Does the car just need more breaking in? Will this knotchy problem get better. Anyone have any similar problems? GaToR

To say this has been covered extensively would be the greatest understatement of the century. Try doing a search and you'll find more info than you thought possible.

I know about the postings, but mine is not a grinding noise at all. It is more like shifting with a knotch between 1st and 2nd mainly. I feel it sometimes going into 3rd, but not that often. No grinding at all. It seems like the car likes to be warmed up (transmission not engine), and the shift needs to be straight down. No huging the inner gear wall, if that makes any sense. GaToR

Yes it will be "notchy" when cold. The tranny oil warms up pretty quickly....

I have the same issue too, but it's a small issue. If you rev to about 4-5k it shifts smoothly, and once the tranny warms up it's gone.

This also happens when it's new. After I had the 1-2 grind TSB work done on my car, the transmission felt like new again. It was tight and notchy, but only on the shift from 1st to 2nd.

Your description sounds pretty normal. My suggestion is to put more miles on that car...

Have fun.

Before I got my car I finally got a dealer to let me try one out. I told him I sure liked it but I thought 1-2 and 2-3 were a little notchy. He looked at me like I was crazy. When I got my car it was the same so I was and am convinced it is just the way the tranny is. If you lean on it a little or get it in vtec it is smooth as silk. I have 11k on mine and it is much better than when new.

Mine was very notchy going from 2nd to 3rd. It got much better over time (or I just got use to it ). The direct linkage that this shifter has will feel much different than most shifters. Others will feel like the linkage is in molasses compared to this one.

Knotchy shifting seems to disappear for me as I put more mileage on the STOOK. I currently have 16K miles.
