Default Kumho ECSTA Supra 712 - Good Enough???

Looking for a tire on a seriously low budget. Are these decent tires for the warm months ahead??

For a seriously low budget, yes. They do not handle as well as the stock S02's but they do give some warning before they let go. I've got 245/45's on the back of my car now and since I don't push the car hard on the street they are fine. They are a little louder also.

i had them on for about 9 months now, great wear, can't see much wear and tear... the handling is not as great as the s02's, but if you don't race, don't do really hard corners, and use it as a daily drive, it is great for the price...

I used to have a set of 275/35ZR18 on my 3000GT VR4. Worst tire I ever put on that car. Even with all wheel drive handling was a project at high speeds.

I talked to someone just this week that is very sorry he bought the 712's. Says they just don't compare to the tires he has been using. He feels he should have purchased S02's or at least KDW's instead.

I think the KDW's are noisy...

I had them on my Contour SVT and thought of them as a decent handling dry tire and fantastic wet weather tire. Not as sticky as the gumballs, but good for 2-3x the wear. You can't have it both ways at this price, so figure out what's more important...the wear or the stick factor. Unless you are REALLY pushing the car, they will be fine in most street applications. I also had them in my Camaro SS and they hooked up surprisingly well. In snow, they are horrible, but that is expected.

Honestly for what I paid, I think these are awesome tires. If you know how to drive your S2K, you will be able to gauge how far you can push the car on these tires and all will be okay. Wet traction is awesome ... dry traction is good enough for day-to-day driving and semi-aggressive driving ... both of which I've done quite a bit of. Also, the tread wear seems to be very good and they should last quite a long time. You just gotta be sure not to push them as if they were S02's.

Colin (in this thread: https://www.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.php?...?threadid=51198 ) didn't have much good to say about the 712s. Have you thought abut trying the Yokohama AVS Intermediate ( http://www.tirerack.com/tires/yokohama/yo_avsi.jsp )? They cost half as much as our OEM S-02s but look like they might be just about as sticky. You wouldn't get as much milage out of these as the 712s but you won't loose as much performance -- and you'll still be paying half as much as you would for OEM S-02s!

Not sure about sizes, but Yoko A520's I had on my spyder (205 all around....love controllable oversteer yay!) and the treadwear rating was 180 I believe and it was a great wet weather tire and dry traction was incredible...every bit as sticky if not more so than these OEM's. The only problem is it just might be the only tire capable of drowning out the noise from the Veilside titanium muffler!
