Default Laguna Color Mis-matched Issue

I first noticed the different shade from the front bumper to the hood/fenders etc as I was washing my car and it was getting dark. I also noticed the same shade/differences on these two small body parts between the trunk and the softop (not sure if you guys know what Im talking about)

At first I was pissed because I thought this was due to a re-paint for the front bumper. You can not really notice it in teh daylight, only when it is slightly dark. I do however, now notice it more and mroe because I know its there lol.

Then I came upon this thread.

https://www.s2ki.com/forums/index.php?showt...0&#entry5737805

which made me feel slightly better. Can someone confirm that the different shades is due to the materials? The front bumper is a bit darker in the shade then the rest of the car. Or was it re-sprayed?

Thanks in advance.

Ill take some when I can. I mean I owned the car for almost a year and I just noticed it one day when I was washing the car and it was dark (with a little light).

Of course now I notice it more and more because Im staring at it .

Do you have any issues of this sort?

That has a lot to do with it. You have a plastic bumper, aluminum hood and steel fenders all in the same area.

Judicious use of primer and more coats of paint are necessary to mitigate the problem. I'm guessing Honda doesn't have the budget to really do it right -- you won't notice the same issue on a Porsche.

None yet...but i've only owned the car for about 6 months However...I got my new fenders painted, and I must say that either the body shop did an awesome job, or i dont' have an eye for detail...but i can't see any difference. It might just be regular wear and tear. My lip is a little cloudy now, but that's cuz of me tracking the car.

Worst case scenario is that the dealership or whoever you bought the car from did do a respray and didn't do a good job.

Is the bumper faded at all? Or just a different shade?

Almost EVERY s2000 i have seen with metallic paint has a bit of mis match colores betwen the bumper and the body. Hell, even my GPW seems a bit off in the right light. I think the only ones that get away with this issue are the Berlinas. Its nothing new so don't sweat it.

^ nichigo the fenders apparently isnt that hard to match as the bumper because it is metal still.

The weird thing is I just bought a lip as well and it matches well with the bumper !!

Its not faded i dont think .. jsut a darker shade.

Paint on the bumper vs. sheetmetal parts are not going to match. The paint lays differently on a plastic than it does metal, and metallics exacerbate this.
Fact of the matter is that it's virtually impossible to have a dead match on your paint, even if you're comparing sheetmetal parts that were painted on two different occasions. It is the painter's job to do their best in getting it as close as they can so that our eyes can not easily pick up the difference, so they use things like blending within panels to help create this illusion. Even if you had Honda respray your car, it'd still be the same thing. Variables like temperature, climate, the mix, etc can play into the final outcome. Blues are particularly hard to match as they have a lot of colors in them.
