Default Last oem windshield

Not sure where to post this. I called 2 different dealerships and found that there is currently one oem windshield in stock. Last time I called or checked online there were zero. My Dad and I both have S2000s and he wanted an oem windshield, but not enough to pay $800. I’m passing on it too.
I felt I should bring this windshield to the attention of the board in case anybody here has been searching, as I know it is something of a unicorn as far as parts.
I called Honda of Seattle and Honda of Kirkland, both confirmed there is one available. It may be in error and you’d have to order it to find out for sure.

My 2007 got an OEM windshield, back in 2014. There weren't many OEM NOS available, back then. I had to wait two weeks for it to be shipped from TN. I think it was $600 installed.

What is the difference between OEM and off market windshields? Thinner? I always thought the more important aspect was the OEM trim pieces that go with it.

What I’ve heard (might be totally untrue) is that non OEM versions chip and put more easily. That has been my experience personally. My non OEM windshield has pitted like crazy in no time. No big deal to just get a new aftermarket version because they’re cheap, but I think OEMs are tougher.

I really don't know. But, some Honda fan boys told me to buy OEM Honda windshields. Never buy aftermarket cheapies.

So, I went with their suggestion.

Windshield quality is about distortion. Its not easy to make glass free of distortion as it curves. This is especially true of areas where curve changes more in less space. Like at left and right edges of our glass.

Easy way to check, poor quality glass, straight, vertical object (light pole, etc) will get wavy as you move head to view it through edges of glass.

I was curious about availability on the east coast and found this: https://www.hondaautomotiveparts.com...gc-73111s2aa01
Nice price, but only for local pickup - ugh.

My 75K mile 2009 windshield has a lot of very fine pits. Have had Safelite fix a few larger rock impacts and they did a good job. Being reluctant to replace the windshield, I have for several years used my DA polisher, with HexLogic pads, and 3M glass polisher, to polish the windscreen every year or so. It does a pretty good job. No need to replace so far.

Safelite came out to change mine a few years back, came out with an aftermarket one and said it wasn't any good so he stated it needed OEM, they came out the following day with an OEM windshield and installed it. I only paid my $50 deductible.

Not all aftermarket glass is garbage but they aren't all the same. I've some with all kinds of waves in the glass, how on earth it passed QC is beyond me.

Oh, interesting. Does polishing actually resolve some of the pitting? Or is this basically just a very good clean/shine of the windshield?
