Default Latest model slower?

Hi,

I've just returned to S2000 driving following a couple of years with a Boxster. Before the Boxster I owned a 200 model S2K, my new car is a current model S2K.
Thing is, this one doesn't feel as quick as my old one, is it just me or does anybody else share this view? The Boxster wasn't as good as the S2K, but did have good low down grunt. There doesn't seem to be the 'bang' of coming into the powerband on the newer model S2K.

Magazine time wise, the car is pretty much just as fast. The reason you don't feel the same "bang" into VTEC is because you're making more power and torque in the midrange on the 2.2L so the transition to VTEC is smoother and less harsh. So it "feels" like you're going slower.

I believe the fastest magazine time on the MY00 S2000 was 0-60 in 5.2s and a 13.8 @ 100mph in the 1/4 mile. The fastest magazine time I've seen for a MY04 S2000 has been a 0-60 in 5.5s and a 13.9 @ 99mph in the 1/4 mile. Note that to get 0-60 in the MY04 you need to shift into 3rd gear because of the shorter gearing while in the MY00 you could hit 60mph in 2nd gear.

On the street, the AP1 (MY00-03) and AP2 (MY04-05) are even from the stories I've read.

I believe NogsK is located in UK. UK still has the 2.0L for '04 and '05 model...

Hmmm...there's a Best Motoring video where they compare a MY04 to a MY00. The my04 was faster around a race track...of course there are a bunch of factors (driver, more miles on the my00, suspension, etc.) but the general consensus was the new one is faster. And these were JDM models (still the 2.0L for the new one).

What you "feel" isn't always what is "true"...but then again, the feel of the S2K is a big part of what an S2000 is.

Indeed, the MY05 S2000 NogsK drives has the same 2.0 liter engine as the MY00 he used to own. And likely with much fewer break-in miles. Sounds perfectly normal to me that it'll feel a tad bit slower at first.
