Default Leaking Boot

Hi, we are new owners of an S2000, having just bought a very low milage 2007 model. getting the car ready I found water ingress in the boot area, and having checked it appears to be coming form the small cover on the nearside which I'm guessing give access to the soft top motor, has anyone fixed a leak in this area ? Thanks

I used shin-etsu grease on the weather stripping, apparently it makes it puff out a little. I do it once or twice a year and it usually keeps the seals from leaking.

Copying an old post of mine.... Most of the time it's the vent in the trunk. Search trunk vent DIY in the forum. If not that, I had the issue below.

I bought an AP2 that had water in the trunk. Mine was running down the left hand side of the trunk floor, under the carpet, and into the trunk tub. I stripped the interior, sealed the trunk vent, and checked to top drains to start off and still had some leakage.. My car also had an aftermarket top that was recently installed when I bought it. I noticed some details about the top install that seemed somewhat poorly done and assumed my leak was likely due to a top install. I found an installer on this board that has done hundreds of them and drove up to have him take a look. He determined that my rain rail was leaking/damaged and I needed to buy a new one. A new rain rail was around $200 + shipping for a large package and labor for having someone backtrack through a top install. The guy knew exactly what he was doing to gut the back side of the top in about 30 minutes and get to the root of the problem. The previous installer had broken a bunch of interior plastics and just botched the job. I replaced the plastics while I was in it.

Thanks for the info.
I’ll start with the boot vent and see what I find. The soft top is the original so that area hasn’t been messed with, I’ll let you know how I get on

It's almost assuredly leaking from the water vents for the top. I had to shove the little next door neighbor inside the trunk with a flashlight and my phone to record where the leak was coming from while I had a hose running on it. She thought it was fun and everybody else was amused, the look on her parents face though when I knocked on their door..."Is Ivy home, I need to stick her in my trunk".

It did work however! Located where the water was coming from and cleaned out the tube.

Thanks for the advise, not sure about closing one of the grandkids in the boot, but working out how to film the leak is good.

Water in the S2000 trunk seems to be common from bungled roof replacements or blocked roof drains.

Small children in the trunk/boot can be very helpful. Years ago a friend with a MGB had constant dead battery problems. Until we convinced her grade school daughter to get in the trunk and let us close the lid we didn't know for sure the trunk light was not going off when the lid closed. The lid was bent where the support was connected and easily "reformed" to depress the light switch. The MGB had a rigid support that required depressing a latch to close the lid, usually after trying to close it with out doing that which over time bend the panel.

There's an emergency release inside the trunk. Should glow in the dark.

A British car with an odd electrical issue? Seems highly unlikely...
