Roadster withdrawal. Got a call from Honda zone last Friday, told that Weseloh Honda has all the parts for the fix on my S2K. Dropped the car off this morning. They seem very together and organized. They agreed to do the tranny and clutch, seatbelt, check MAP sensor, and install the Spoon rear lower brace. My loaner ... a Ford Focus. It will stay in the garage, scaring my Legend coupe with its unremittingly ugly appearance.

A note on the Legend. Yesterday, I had the Bilstein engine flush treatment done before changing the Mobil 1, 5W30 oil. They told me it would clean the carbon off the valves, etc. All I can say is, wow! The Legend is a 6 spd coupe which I've timed at 6.5 seconds for 5-60 mph. The car has 124K miles and rides like new. But today, when I delivered the S2K's cross bar, I took the 73 toll road. I asked the toll lady if she would mind if I made some noise taking off, she smiled and said go right ahead. Even though I have new Toyo Proxes S1s, and launched off idle without revving, the Legend front tires shrieked off the line, not just chirped but shrieked when I grabbed second, and barked when I hit third, all at its meager Dinan massaged redline of 7000 rpms. The 3.2 liter V6 makes a gorgeous honking moan through its RM Racing intake, sounding like a stressed small block. Too bad Honda dropped the Legend instead of refining it, with for instance, a 290HP VTEC version of the 3.2 instead of the 230 HP version delivered (stock).

Anyway, nervous about my S2K being disassembled. I figure if American service techs work on your foreign car often enough, it will become an American car. Unreliable and full of rattles. Think I'll have my once in a blue moon scotch.

Sorry for being lazy, but I'll have to take my stook in for the seatbelts soon. What exactly is the tranny/clutch issues or MAP sensor and if I need this fixed as well? were these recall issues too? My car is #38xx if that makes a difference, off the lot in January.

TIA

2x6 spds,
I'd be very interested in hearing how much reduction in deceleration noise you get after installing the new clutch, and how the car handles with the spoon brace. I've been holding off doing any clutch/tranny work on mine until I can compare with someone elses first hand. I work in Costa Mesa...let me know

Heck, SSX, I eat lunch in Costa Mesa almost every day! I will report back on Weseloh's work. One thing, I wouldn't take my car to Costa Mesa Honda on Harbor. What a pig sty! They have a 2001 yellow, and want $12K over sticker. What more needs be said about them?

Anyway, maybe lunch at Sam Woos Chinese BBQ?

2x6 speeds...I'm always up for some tasty BBQ pork, so Sam Woos sounds fine. Let me know when you get your car back. Any other OC S2K owners wanna grab some lunch?

Hope everything goes well for you 2x6spds! I'd be just about as nervous as you are!
I'm starting to get a little rattled by all the "bad service" threads that keep popping up. I'm thinking that whenever my car will need service, I'm going to have to take a few days and stay with the car in the shop so no idiots come by and do a shoddy job on my car...
Anyways, tilt one back with me dog! 21year old Glenlivet here!

Hi After3burn

I hear you. I'm fighting the impulse to bring a cot over to the service department, or just hang around and watch them operate. On the other hand, I don't want to appear like an out-patient, or demonstrate any unhealthy fixated attachment to a material object. I am also fighting an almost irresistable impulse to drop by and slip the service tech working on my car a 100 dollar bill and ask him to put all the screws and bolts back where they belong when he's done.

I also have this recurring image of 3 service techs jammed into my S2000, wooping as they scream to 9200 rpms in each gear, then blasting along in my car at 140 mph throwing empty beer cans as they go, greasy hair wind blasted straight back, and howling as the slip stream whistles loudly through the spaces left by missing teeth. That would be the test drive part of what I'm worrying about.

2X6,

Thanks for the info about your loaner at Weseloh. I faxed them some threads about the clutch and Tony called me back. Asked who my friend was that was having the work done on his S2000. I told him I only had talked via the web and he laughed and said he would give me a loaner since they were providing one to you. So far so good. I bring the car in on Monday. The loaner will end up in the airport parking garage during a visit to Dallas. Works out pretty well.

Here's hoping we both end up with positive experiences.
