Default Left rear diff. mount leaking

Hey guys,
I have a problem with my driver side rear differential mount leaking some kind of black oil. I noticed the problem when i parked my car in the garage and saw spots of oil on the floor. I checked it out and didnt notice where it was coming from so i wiped it off and drove around and checked in and it was dry but when I came back out there it was again. I went to work and put it up on a lift and a couple of the techs. checked it out and say that rubber is cracked but they have no idea where the oil could be from unless it is a liquid filled mount. Anyways I ordered a new one from Honda but i wanna make sure that is what it is first. Sorry for the long write but need to see if anyone else has had this problem. Thank you for you help

Chris

They are liquid filled mounts just like the engine mounts. Usually, the fluid is reddish but your's may be really dirty and look dark.

Thank you Xviper, Yes the fluid is very dark black and doesnt have any smell so I had no idea what kind of fluid it was. Now, is this problem common? This is my second S, and only has 12k (MY00) on it so i dont know my first 03 never had this problem. Also is this mount hard to change? It looks to me it is only 4 bolts and one in the middle. If you could get back to me that would be great. Thank you again viper.

Although this is not a "common" issue, it has been reported a few times here. Seems some mounts are just prone to leakage. Mine are over 5 years old and are still tight.
It's not a difficult job. Can be done with hand tools but is quicker if an air rachet is used.

thank you viper for the fast response. Hah, one more question though...after taking off the mount do i need anything under the diff to hold it up while i get the new mount in place. And do you by any chance know the torque specs.? Thank again

The diff will still be supported by the other mount and brackets, so it won't fall down on your head.
Sorry, I'm at work and my manual is at home with all the torque specs.

Alright sounds good, well the the mount should be here in about 2 days so whenever you get the chance to torque specs would be greaty appreciated. Again thanks for your quick replies

OK, looking at the Helm manual, it appears you can remove the mount by undoing the two bolts that screw UP, then the single large nut on the end of the bracket that runs through the mount. You can then slide the mount away from the bracket.
Torques are as follows:
33 lb/ft for the two vertical bolts.
47 lb/ft for the single nut.

Ain't this board great? You just saved the guy from a $100 diagnosis and a $300+ repair at the dealer.

(I'm being facetious, but it's not too far from the truth)

Well, this was just a suggestion. He may still find that there isn't enough clearance and may have to unbolt the one bracket, in which case, he'll have 2 more bolts to torque back up. The ones that go into the diff casing are also 47 lb/ft.
