Default Legal Question

I need new tires. So last time i went to honda they recommended i get new tires when i was in for my 15k service. On my invoice reciept it says "RECOMMEND FOUR TIRES. BRIDGESTONES WITH AN ALIGNMENT ARE 489.95." So i went into honda last saturday, asked if this price was correct. The lady said yes and i asked what kind of tires they were. She said the bridgestone potenza SO2s. So i scheduled an appointment. Today i recieved a call saying that the price was only for the rears and it would be 800 something for all four. Now my question is are they legally obligated to sell me 4 tires with alignment for 489.95. I have the price in writing. Thanks

I would suggest that they are not legally bound to sell you the 4 tires for $489.xx. The document that you recieved was obviously not a bound contract/bill of sale/quotation signed by both parties for the sale of said tires. Indeed, if they don't want to sell you tires or anything else at all, at any price, they are not obligated to do so.

Hope that helps.

good gawd! that's expensive. i run a custom setup off much wider tires and the best that money could buy cost me $770 all the way around from tirerack.com.

in fact, i just hit up tirerack for current prices of S-02's, and it comes to $646 plus shipping, handling.

or S-03's all the way around are $630 plus shipping and handling but includes a $50 rebate.

i know this doesn't exactly answer your question, but my question to you is ... in most cases, you either have to replace just the front two or just the back two due to different wear. did it just so happen that both wore down and needed to be replaced at once?

yea all four are to the point where they need to be replaced. im not the original owner of the car so it could be that the car is on its first set of front and second set of rears. but, yea, all four are almost bald and need replacing.

as i mentioned in the above and if you haven't already replaced them, you might look into the above and have a reputable company do the balancing, aligning, etc for you. it'll save you some cash. not $483, but still much less than they're trying to scrape out of you.

Legally, they would not be bound to selling you the tires as that price as they merely state Bridgstone tires + alignment = 489. They do not say how many Bridgestones are included in that price.

However, the communication does seem misleading, and may be worth speaking to the service manager or general manager of the dealership.

I don't believe they are obligated to sell you 4 tires plus an alignment at that price. However, you might ask the service manager or general manager to help you out on the price, since that does seem misleading.

The price they quoted isn't really that high if it includes the install and tax. The $646 from Tirerack.com doesn't include the shipping which would put it at $700 before install. Add that Tirerack doesn't currently have S-02s and I would say go with the dealership. This is assuming it's just barely over $800.
