Default license suspended

so the night i picked up my car, i get a "failure-to-yield" ticket about 10 hours into my drive home. it was a bunch of crap if you ask me. anyway, the town i got it in was over 5 hrs from my house, so i just decided to pay the $75 and get it over with. if i would've known my license could be suspended, i would've fought it. i guess a letter showed up at my house (don't live there anymore), telling me my license was getting suspended starting next week, for 3 months.

it's been 5 months! jesus. what can i do now? i think i read something about a restricted driver's license...driving does help me a little in travelling the 18 miles to and from work every day. is it too late for me to fight the ticket/suspension? will traffic school do anything? the best time of year to be driving a convertible is coming up, and i'll have to miss it!!

i'm in illinois, by the way. jonesboro, IL, you suck.

Uhm, you're trying to tell us your license was suspended because you got an infraction for failing to yield? There is definitely more to the story then you're leading us to believe - possibly multiple accidents/tickets in the past?

however, yeah i guess there is more to the story. there was a checkpoint at an intersection. i didn't see the signs for it, but i did see 3 cop cars with flashing lights parked on the shoulder. i slowed down (apparently not enough), and moved over to the left lane. i'm still looking at the parked cars (thinking someone got pulled over), when i notice about 5 or 6 cops jump in the lane in front of my car. idiots, never a good idea to jump in front of a moving vehicle. anyway, i stop before i get to them, they yell at me for driving too fast (i stopped before i got there, didn't i?! it was about 30 in a 45 i believe). end of story, i get a failure to yield ticket.

the last ticket i got before that was when i was 17 or 18 (23 now). no accidents until the month after i had the car, but i was deemed not at fault when the officers arrived (even though i thought i was).

Get a lawyer and see if he can do anything for you. Seems like something unreasonable for you to get suspended for. Unless there is something you are not telling us, it sounds like a mistake all of us could have made. In addition, you gotta drive to work, so perhaps a lawyer can make it so you can do that at least.

Good luck.

i'm pretty sure there isn't anything more, and i think it's pretty unreasonable as well. has anyone had any experience dealing with a lawyer in these types of situations? it's not severe enough where i'd pay $1000 or something to not have a suspended license (unless that would affect insurance or anything else down the road?)...hopefully i'd be able to get one of those restricted driving permits on my own...

"benighted"

get your phone book out and start dialing lawers...some will offer free over the phone consulation...you can describe your situation and

1. see if lawer can do anything, i'm sure they can.
2. make sure to ask an estimated cost
3. ask them to tell you what they can do, make it clear that you are willing to spend money if and only if you can get fairly high probably of pulling the suspension off...otherwise, why waster money...

Wow, cant beleive that they would suspend your drivers license for a "failure to yeild" ticket. This is a very minor infraction in itself, and you said you paid for it quickly...There must be some sort of a mistake. Good luck with getting this mess worked out.

Well I just read this whole situation out to my dad (A police captain of 26 years) and he said that you should not have gotten a license suspension for a failure to yeild ticket if you paid for it on time. He told me to tell you to take the receipt for your payment of the ticket to the courthouse that you received the ticket at and see if they made a mistake. He also went on to add that IL state law's might be different then those we have down here. Best of luck in getting all this cleared up.
Hope this helps you out somewhat.
