Seems awkward that you got your license suspended. Hope everything turns out okay.

Go to the MVA and pull your driving record.
Go to that local court house and pull a copy of your case.
I would think you are hosed. You had the oppurtunity to meet your accuser and you chose to send in the money. Case closed. Unless there is a blatent error. Start digging and wiggling.

ugh, what a pain. the notice says for "failure-to-yield for a stopped emergency vehicle". i can understand it being a suspendable offense i suppose, but the thing is that i did move over, and stop before i reached any officers. i only sent in the cash because at the time it wasn't worth it for me to miss two days of work with an 11 hr round trip.

here is the code that i was marked for in the notice (subsection c of 11-907):
http://www.ilga.gov/legislation/publicacts...093-0173&GA=093

check out section (d)...says that the offense should have a fine not less than $100, but not more than $10,000...mine was $75. it also said i was supposed to appear in the court, but the officer said i could just mail it in. do they have to let me know this is something i could've gotten my license suspended for? man, this sucks. guess i should find a lawyer now.

what you are going to do is call the case back into court at the county court house, and then be retried. Ive done that twice. both times ending up with a supervision. it was like $80 to get it back into court and then I paid $100 for something else,...

Buying one of these and riding it to work for 3 months would be cheaper than a lawyer.

Definitely get a lawyer. Insurance asks if you've had a suspended license in the past sometimes and it definitley affects your rates. It's better to fork over a few hundred extra for a lawyer now than to pay for it in insurance.

By paying the fine, and not showing up for court, he's admitted guilt. Hiring a lawyer now will be a costly endeavor, as any rights to an appeal are not given after a guilty plea. His only hope is to get a new trial, but this is going to be difficult, as his only reason for a new trial is he doesn't like his punishment. He's not going to get much sympathy or cooperation from the court on this one.

samething happened to me like 4 yrs ago.
i got a PARKING TICKET. and i moved, and mail was gettin arounded and i never got it. and of course i forgot about it. and 1 yr later,
i got pulled over for at some sort of checking point, and suddenly, that cop handcuffed me and i went to police station with my car towed cuz my license was suspended due to non paying PARKING TICKET.
so, i paid bail to get out, and paid a lot of other things to get my license back. so, i think it took about couple weeks to get it back, HOWEVER, heres the problem. History record of suspension on record, screwed me over BIG time when i was searching for insurance for my new s2k. they asked me $10500 per year. so i waited... waited... waited about 3 yrs to everything to clear out, and they asked another 4 month for some sort of insurance refresh or watever...and it went back to so i got my car yesterday anyways, try to get lawyer and take it from there, cuz you need to straight everything out for future.

vanos, i just re-read that section of the vehicle code, and it does seem that i should've only been suspended if i caused any damage/injured someone, which i didn't. did anyone else read it this way? thanks for pointing that out.

jlstyle, that was the answer i wanted to hear and didn't want to hear at the same time. are your insurance rates still higher because of the suspension, or no because everything has cleared off your record? insurance is the main thing i am worried about.
