Light weight lugs really worth?
so i went to a local performance shop today. they had the buddy club lugs and a few others in the shop. felt them all the buddy clubs were without a doubt the lightes felt lke i was holding a little piece of plastic.
but now my question is they were $200 for all 20. is it really worth it to spend that kind of money on light weight lugs? it doesn't seem so in my opinion unless its a full race car. the only real thing is your getting some neat looking lugs for $200.

(talking weight & $ only) do this calculation:
dollars spent / weight saved. then you have the $-to-weight ratio, and you can make an objective analysis.
you can probably only compare rotational masses with like, such as ligher wheels to lighter lug nuts to lighter disc brakes. of course, the farther out they are from the axis of rotation, the more significant the reduced mass becomes.
same goes with comparing unsprung weight with like, such as lighter brakes, etc. and then comparing sprung-weight with such (the rest of the car).
I'm sure there's a good formula to calculate and compare all of these various masses and their effects on the car, but for a quick off-the-cuff calculation as to whether to do it, there ya go.
at first blush, I'd say on those light weight lugs and look into lighter wheels, lighter tires or lighter brake discs.

Just for clarity, the $100 is for a set of 20, (5 lugs) per wheel. They also sell them in a set of 16, (4 lugs) per wheel.
quote, in the text of the link
"These lugs are sold in a complete set of 16 for 4 lug configurations and a complete set of 20 for 5 lug configurations. Be sure to choose the correct configuration before ordering."

Jonathan,
Look closely next time you see Spoon S's car, or ask him. Those are the Daiyama nuts from the link. In fact, his car had an inlinefour.com license plate frame on it, and that's how I found the lugs online. I remember looking at his lug nuts, thinking "Daiyama? who the heck is that?"
