Can some one who reads Japanese give a rough translation of this article? http://homepage1.nifty.com/integral_kobe/s.../s2000/horo.htm

Good article, i have emailed for futher information. If it does fit the 2001 frame, i am definatly trading up to a 2002 top. I think the blue hood on the Monte Carlo blue S2000 looks very good.

From what I can gather out of a babelfish translation, the frame has been modified to fit the '02 top. This was cheaper than replacing the whole frame. Total cost was 156k yens + 18k yens for the demister.

Mingster actually found this car a while back on the board. From what I remember, it was definitely a custom install job. The glass window was not designed to replace the plastic window. Not sure what the shop that did it had to do.

Is it me, or do those pictures make it look like the plastic rear window was replaced with...a smaller plastic rear window?

That doesn't look like glass to me. Where are the rear defroster lines, for example? And what's with those wrinkles?

you can see the defroster lines if you look close...I think the wrinkles are the protective plastic covering for shipping...

I'm thinking that this is the blue replacement soft top that is available so it would only work for an 02. p/n 08L31-S2A-130A, MSRP $995.

OK, I see now. I'd be interested to see if any of the sponsors who specialize in importing JDM products will be bringing this over.

The page says roughly the following:

************************************************** ***********
The frames of the soft top are different before and after the change, and so are the ways they operate. Due to these differences, you cannot simply change the soft top canvas and the prastic window; you have to change the entire top, which is a costly operation, and most owners feel discouraged.

But with years of experiences on roadsters, we can change the canvas and install the rear glass window by modifing the existing frame without sacrificing the tension of the canvas and the ease-of-use function of the original design. The cost of this modification is nearly half of what you would have to pay for the whole exchange of the top. The pricing of our modification program would be:

1. 158,000 yen (about 13,000 USD) for the canvas exchange (incl. rear
glass window replacement)
2. 1. plus 18,000 yen if you want defogger.

It takes about six hours for the modification to be completed. You have a choice of color; black or blue.
************************************************** ***********
Well, according to the article, the whole top replacement would cost you well over $3,000. I certainly feel discouraged.

I don't know the quality of their work, though. I hope it is good.
