LoJack?
Honda wanted me to pay for lojack, should i go for it. I persoanlly do not like the idea that id have my car returned to me after it was stolen, if for no other reason that being stolen destoys its value. ANy opinions, Mike.
TWO friends of mine had their cars stolen (both integra GSRs) and in neither case did lojack help. Apparently, it only works within 1.5 miles or something like that so if they steal your car and you don't notice then they could be long gone, out of town or something? That's what my friend told me (that got his integ jacked and never got it back).
Ok, maybe you guys can clear this up, cause it makes no sense to me.
Why would ANYONE want Lojack, let alone PAY for it? If the car is stolen, insurance will replace it. Quite honestly, if my car was stolen, I would NOT want it back because who knows what they did to it. Now I can understand if maybe you have an extremely rare car that can't be replaced, or something of the sort.

Insurance will NOT replace your car if stolen, it will pay off the value of the car. So if you bought your car 1 month ago and put down 10,000 dollars on it, you may get your $10,000 back depending on how the car is valued. It is possible that you will get less than your downpayment and have to come up with some of that cash to buy a new one. Of course if you bought your car outright or put down really huge sums of money, you should get most of it back.
Lojack lowers the price of your comprehensive insurance. I personally have lojack on all my cars and the savings it has given me in insurance in NYC (not a cheap area to insure) has been more than worth it.

I got Lojack for the first time when I bought the S. Vroom is correct, you get only the value of the car back if it is stolen. Usually you have to wait for 30 days before the insurance company declares it lost for good. Fortunately, I've not got the chance to find out how well it works. I figured/hoped that if they car can be located quickly, the overall damage will be limited. It does seem to be a subscription service. Apparently after two years there is a annual fee to keep the service going.
exactly what vroom said - insurance will compensate only what they claim is the fair market value of the car, which will more than likely be less even than what you still owe on it. you'll lose any down payment you made, and if you don't have gap insurance, your lender will come after you for the balance outstanding after the insurance payoff. if your car gets stole, you're far better off getting it back in one piece and unharmed, if at all possible.
the thing with lojack is you have to notify the cops that your car's been stolen - so if you don't notice until hours later, chances are your car's already been chopped.

Unless you bought some sort of Replacement Cost coverage, your insurance company will only pay the Actual Cash Value of your car...meaning a combination of current market value, condition of the car etc. Replacement Cost would usually be limited to the first few years of a car's life.
I really don't know about Lojack. Just ask all the ITR owners who've never had their cars recovered.

Lojack BLOWS.
I had it installed on my 2002 Z28 and when they come to your house to do it, if it wasn't done at the dealer, they will tell you that do to safety reasons and "your own" insurance they have to install it without you watching. That way by you not knowing where it is on your car you can't accidentally let it slip out of your mouth while in some intoxicated state hanging out with that select group of friends you have somewhere that would actually consider robbing you. You know....that group of friends you don't tell your "real friends" about that you hang out with in an effort to feel cool. Don't worry if you don't know what I am talking about, Lojack couldn't understand either.
Anyhow to make a long story short the guy told me to wait inside while he installed it. I asked him how many places there were on a Camaro to install the unit, his reply was "eight." I told him to find one of the eight places that didn't require touching anything associated with the dash. Well guess what he did?? Exactly. He tore my dash apart and it took a few weeks of hassle and poor time management to finally get them to live up to there mistake. Anyhow everything is peachy now and I will not consider them in the future when I purchase my S2000.
