Question is this long life oil good for the s2k?

Saw this commercial about long oil life, I think it was 5k, 7500k and something else. I think the brand was castrol but could be wrong. Basically they advertise you can now go up to a specific mileage without an oil change using their oil? They had a 350z in their commerical also. Does this stuff work?

It was Mobil 1, but I guess it could protect still after all those miles but the oil will get dirty, and thats what I don't like about the idea of leaving it in that long. I use syntec and still change it every 3000 miles max I like to do it every 2500 miles or so !

Normally its not actually the oil that breaks down (synthetic), but rather that the filter can no longer handle the debris in the oil...so yeah its possible with a super-filter, too bad they don't make them yet

You guys crack me up. ANY oil will last for 7500 miles. That is the recommended oil change interval for your car, if you didn't notice.

Don't spread it around, but if you accidentally go 7501 miles between changes you will be fine too.

The limiting factor on motor oil effectiveness is actually that oil picks up contaminants from combustion. You need to change the oil because it gets exhaust in it. That's all. It has nothing to do with the filter getting clogged. If your filter gets "clogged" after 2500 to 3000 miles I am afraid you have much bigger problems than simply needing an oil change.

After 10,000 to 25,000 miles you might get oil component breakdown; Mineral oils might have some separation of components. You change it before that for a different reason altogether.

No matter what Mobil or Redline or anybody else says, your engine will not last even a day longer if you change your oil every 2000 miles with Mobil 1, or if you change it every 7500 miles with a decent quality SAE dinosaur oil. No difference whatsoever.

Not a single S2000 engine has EVER failed because the oil was "worn" or contaminated at 7500 miles. Not a single one. No S2000 engine ever even showed signs of wear from such outrageous abuse.

When it comes to Mobil 1 and the S2000, get this: I have been reading the boards from the beginning. There have been more reports of negative problems due to Mobil 1 use in the S2000 than positive benefits (actually, to my knowledge, nobody has ever documented a benefit to using Mobil 1 in an F20C!) The two most reported downsides to Mobil 1 in the S2000 have been increased oil consumption between changes, and exhaust residue. Again, I don't think anyone has ever documented a benefit. That's my recollection after 5 and a half years of owning and reading about S2000s.

Some people get a "comfort" dividend from changing their oil a lot, and some people are strongly brand loyal, but it has no effect on engine life whatsoever.

ALL motor oil marketing and oil change marketing is focused on getting you to do the following:

-change your oil more frequently
-use a certain, more expensive brand, or develop a loyalty to a certain brand so that you feel "less protected" or "lower performance" if you do not use that brand.
-in short, to get you to give more money to their company so the shareholders can buy their girlfriends nice presents and get laid more often.
(My recommendation is to save your money and spend it on your own girlfriend...)

None of it, not a single bit of marketing is built on relevant science or real life experience.

The reality is you should avoid Wesson Oil and any brand of sesame oil in your S2000. That's about it. Otherwise just follow the advice of the folks who engineered and built your car and you will be fine.

7500 miles is not a stretch unless you are on the track every single day. Even then you wouldn't require a "long life oil," you just need to shorten the interval between changes.

2500 miles between oil changes? Are you kidding me? Why on earth? You do realize we have finite natural resources on the planet, don't you? You put brand new oil in your engine, then drain it and throw it out a month later? That is either lunacy, wastefulness, or good, good, very good marketing. What else could possibly get you to consume three-fold the resources you need to use to get the job done?

That is a lot like changing your tires every 3000 miles not because they are worn out or used up, only because you want to have new tires on your car all the time. It just feels better to you.

yeh I'll probably just keep it to 3k miles. I don't use mobile one, its whatever brand the oil place I go to uses. I use valvoline though to top her off when I burn a lil oil. Its all the same price $2.19 for every brand 10w30 quart (mobil, valvoline, etc) at the auto store.

Really, every 7500 miles is fine. 3000 miles is not "better."

In the big picture you get no benefit, but you incur almost three times the financial cost and consume almost three times the resources. Therefore, in the big picture, changing every 3000 miles is more harmful than every 7500 miles.

The most important thing is to keep checking the level as you do--make sure you have oil in there!

The reason for me doing the oil change that often is cause for me to drive 2500 miles takes me about 4 months to do now that I have a daily driver. I guess i could go 3000, but i got use to doing it early with my turboed civic, the oil would go really bad quick in that car !!

As for the tires come on get real, I change them every 6000 miles Just playing.

Yeh the oil in the s2k was dirty (not clear/blackish)when I had checked it at 1k miles I think. Probably normal. Something really short form what I remember checking.
