How does the sales tax work in an out of state purchase?

Do you end up getting double taxed when you register the car in your home state?

I'm not too sure about CA, but in MA you pay MA sales tax. I bought my car in NY and brought it in.

Otherwise, it would've been prohibitive. You should not be double taxed.

That said, there was definitely some confusion about someone who was talking about buying an Evo from a dealer in HI and bringing it to CA. Sounded to me like he didn't have his facts straight, but it's surely possible that CA is different than MA.

Even if the Grand Honda ad is BS, you can still get $1 over invoice by using Carquotes.
