Default looking to get an s2000 for a daily driver

Hi, my celica is nearing the end of its life and I am looking for a "fun" beater, the s2000 looks like a cool car to have for a daily driver.... I test drove one and really liked the handling, it was definetly lacking in the power dept. but that was to be expected i guess... it had headers and a cat back which sounded awful.... i definetly am looking for a bone stock one!

do most of you get around 25mpg with your cars? Are these cars as reliable as most hondas/toyotas? I read about some oil consumption issues but I am not worried about that, i guess I am just looking for feedback from other people who have s2000's as daily drivers.....

Mine is a daily driver. I average 19mpg half highway and half city. I havent had any oil consumption problems but I have only 2300 miles on the car (all put on in about a month). The car is a great daily driver the only thing that makes it uncomfortable is the lack of lower lumbar support.

thanks for the feedback! Question though, do you ever really use the 6th gear? I know the 6th gear in my camaro is useless under 80 mph, i am just curious as to the gearing on the s2000 (i didnt try 6th gear on my test drive)

I guess I'll give you this example.

Take an S2000 and an LT1 camaro with a 6 speed.

Have both of them be at any speed, say 40mph or 65mph etc. Floor it. The S2000 will pull every time. Unlike the F-body, the S2000's 6th gear is not an extremely tall overdrive gear used to manipulate EPA MPG numbers.

I use 6h quite often. Ususally shift to 6th at 55mph and up. On the highway in 6th going 80 I am about 4500RPM.

Maybe you should look at an RSX. It'd be fun to drive, reliable, and more practical than an S2000.
