Default Looking for red 02

Hey all...just wanted to spread the word around. I am seriously thinking about trading/selling my 00 red/black for an 02 red/black. That is IF I can find one.

I have not seen any here in the San Diego area. If you happen to see one on a lot somewhere please let me know. I would be willing to go as far as say, Phx to pick up.

I am putting the word out at a few local dealers also, but the more eyes a lookin the better.

Thanks for the help

Since you live in California, how are you gonna do that?

I thought the CA DMV had a rule that you can't buy a car out of state and then register it in California unless it has over 7,500 miles on it?? Just wondering.

That's if you want to avoid paying sales tax - you can buy it anywhere and register it in CA you just cut the dmv 8.25 % or whatever.

Yup, you can buy it anywhere. It gets registered in the state you live in and you just pay taxes for that area. No biggie at all.

I just spoke to DMV rep on the phone (although I don't think he knows all the details). He repeatedly saying that I need to have 7500 miles on the car before registering it in CA and you are subject to the sales tax. So I asked him if I bought a car, but can't reigster, I have to drive it without reg. for 7500 miles, he said, he doesn't know what I can do, the book says 7500 miles. I got irritated, so now I am seeking for your help.

Has anyone done this and can share his/her experience? Thank you.

I think this summarizes all. You basically can not get any new vehicle (definition of new vehicle is < 7500 miles) from another state. Below is taken from DMV web site, thanx, Jimbo. Although if the car carries the EPA label saying that it has CA smog equipment, would that still be okay? The wording is ambiguous here.

********
What should a California resident look for when buying a new vehicle from another state?

Individuals are prohibited from importing, purchasing, or leasing a new vehicle from another state, unless the vehicle was manufactured for sale in California, and the Environmental Protection Agency label certifies the vehicle has California smog equipment. California considers a new vehicle to be any vehicle with less than 7,500 miles on the odometer at the time of purchase.

I was at Penske Honda in Ontario, CA yesterday and they had two red ones with spoilers and were asking $34K+. I was thinking of trading my 01 in but they didn't have another yellow one. Be prepared for a lowball trade in...

George,

All this says is that a car bought out-of-state must be carb legal, which the S2K is. No worries buying out-of-state.
