Default Looking at this S2000, is it worth it?

Hi guys, Im new to this whole s2ki forum. Was recommended by a s2k seller when I was looking at his car. I saw that the “is this worth it” forum was closed, and couldn't find anywhere else suitable to post this so any admins can remove it if this is the wrong place to post it.

I am currently looking at this s2000 and was wondering if I could get any second opinions on the condition of the car and what my starting offer should be. I’ve been reading through the forum to get tips and know exactly what to look for when buying an s2k and also have been watching tons of videos. Still in the process of learning and any tips would be greatly appreciated. Here is the listing description and some pictures:

2001 Honda S2000 · Convertible · Driven 116,000 miles

Hey guys! Clean Title, All stock S2k with black Enki PF01 245/17 rear 225/17 front. All maintenance is up to date. Radiator replace at 90k rear axles and fluids changed at 95k. Just had transmission, Clutch and TCT replaced at~110k Original silver Paint and red interior. I believe i am the 3rd owner previous 2 were an older woman and young guy. Car runs and Drives fantastic, i have only owned it for 3 years and averaged 9k miles/year. It is a commuter to work ( very short distance) i have all receipts for work.

Oil changed at dealership since i have owned the vehicle, i have Swift lowering springs that I never got the chance to change. Also I had replaced the Engine and transmission mounts. I will provide more pics if you PM me. I have to wash the car, i have been working 12 hour days for the past few months and it is hard to find time.

He is also adding the stock wheels along with the Enkei wheels that are on the car at the moment. I have yet to go check out the car in person as I have been working most of the week but any second opinions would be great before I make the trip!

There were 2 especially useful threads I found before I actually went and looked for a car:

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/775...#entry18385384

https://www.s2ki.com/s2000/topic/102...replace-first/

They should have most of the info and additional links you will ever need.

A couple of things I notice from the pics:

1) Engine bay is dirty, but VTEC solenoid cover looks good. I was told the condition of the cover can tell you a lot about the environment the car was in.
2) Check the top straps--it looks like they are beat and need to be replaced with the MOdifry units.
3) Seat condition. Unfortunately, the early AP1 red seats did not wear well. The seats in this car appear to be especially beat. You can find new seat skins in leather. Alternately, you can purchase Clazzio seat covers from Moddiction.

Read the 2 threads I posted above and arm yourself with information!

Rear bumper is a re-paint. Google an AP1 rear end. The bottom "diffuser" by the exhausts is black plastic from the factory. Often, body shops do not know this and paint over it when repainting. Front bumper appears a different shade of silver. Why were the transmission, axles, and radiator replaced? Are all these OEM Parts? AP1 or AP2 transmission? Did it overheat at any point?

Stuff happens but none of those are really normal for an S2k of that age/mileage. I wouldn't pay 12k for that car personally. I don't think I'd pay 11k because I think that you can get a much nicer one of similar mileage for <14k. My personal opinion on the market is that the bottom tier of running cars is not worth it because for 2-3k more you can get a nice condition one of similar mileage. It depends on your budget and priorities but there are too many red flags here to travel for that car IMO.

I have checked out the first thread but Ill def take a look at the second. Really appreciate it! Good to know that info. I was planning to swap the seats anyways but I think I’ll pass on this car and probably just save up for the right one rather than get one thats cheaper but worse.

I did not realize that! In this case I think I will pass on this car. Im glad i posted this to get second opinions. This forum has been super helpful in my search for an s2000. And you are right I should just save a couple thousand more for one in much better condition. Thank you for the info! Really appreciate the help.

$12k is about on par with cars with that mileage and age. I would recommend having a PPI done. Compression test and leak down if possible.

Why was the radiator replaced? Thats not a normal thing in my experience. Same with the axles.

Rear bumper repainted like others mentioned. Betting it was maybe backed into something. A place to check is in the rear quarter panel arches. There is a little rubber strip on the panel lip. Take those off and look at the arch. There should be visible spot welds. If that area is smooth it means there was body work and they just slathered on filler.

Odd for the passengers seat to be as worn or more worn than the drivers seat.

Top looks like it was replaced at some point?
