Default Lost control of the car this morning...

This morning on the way to work...I noticed this older style something "SS" following me pretty aggresively. Maybe an older Monte Carlo?

Anyhow, there is this great "S" shaped turn that I always like to take at high speeds when no one is around. The "S" shaped turn is perfect for driving nutz because there are no curbs and beyond the pavement is just grass (story foreshadowing).

I toe heal into 1st at the 90 degree turn before the "S" turn, and at the apex of the first curve I came off of the clutch too fast going into 2nd gear. Now that I think about it...I shouldn't even be shifting during the apex of a curve! Now...I just had a stock clutch plate/disk replaced in my car 700 miles ago...and my 2nd gear doesn't just chirp...it spins like crazy.

So, I lost the rear end and did a 180! Almost went into the grass! It's a good thing the Monte Carlo was on the inside lane and got the heck out of there!

The guy was cool though. He stopped up ahead and waited to see if I was alright...

Repeat after me....

Slow in, fast out
Slow in, fast out
Slow in, fast out

All of your braking and down shifting should be complete before turning the wheel when entering a corner, unless there is a bit of trail-braking going on.

This car is very easily rattled mid-corner and your foot should be no where near the clutch med-corner. I'm glad you recognized your error, however.

i have been there...
incredibly horrible feeling-
i wonder if the clutch slippage was also involved in this (the curve shift probably began the problem).
happy to hear that you and the car are o.k.

i found myself driving really carefully for about a week after my spinout/power slide... i am much more cautious in corners now-

Glad to see that you're alright and the car made it through unscratched. Before I opened this thread, I was thinking that it was another one of those "I crashed the S2K" threads. I'm glad nothing serious happened to the car.

I'm glad you and your car are okay. It also seems that the "SS" guy was pretty cool. Be careful and save that stuff for the weekend so we can all see !
