For those of you who wish to immediately blame the tires, perhaps you wish to roll on rubber that hides your mistakes. The S-02 is a fabulous tire with some limitations. It is ludicrous to think that an inanimate object can cause an accident unless it has a failure. Treadwear is not a failure. Ambient temperature is not the reason for any failure. The car was put in motion by the driver. Refreshingly, the driver has accepted responsibility.
no doubt the driver error he should've gone slower considering the road conditions however if he had a good all season he wouldn't have had to but because he wouldn't have needed to. Then again if he was driving an accord with good tires he wouldn't have been able to aaccelerate the way he did in the first place. Time to get out the yugos. No ones yelling tire falure just these tires aren't designed for optimal use in cold weather /rain.

What's everybody's suggestion for helping novice daily-driver's keep their car?
Driving course. Take it to a track with an instructor, autocross and keep the speed down in the rain and cold. replace the tires when they show signs of significant wear well before the 3/32 mark. Don't be cheap buy new tires that are great. i suggest so3s if you want to lower your rain worries or RE's if you have on >=04. Shift before you get into the turn never slam on the brake in a turn never vtech in the rain. Snow tires for the snow. Learn to drive the car before you :show it off" and never ever say "watch this" it's a good indicator that within the next few seconds your going to crash the car. Never use cruise control in bad weather.

I agree with this. Actually, I am against using cruise most of the time. I didn't even use it when I drove to San Antonio last year. It only increases the amount of time you before you can begin decel. I'm referring to reaction times.

The s-o2 mask inadequacies on the race track because they grip so well. We should all get the sears specials and learn how to drive better with crappy cheap tires or maybe we should just get the ones with the highest tread wear rating to save some cash. Better yet lets really improve our driving skill by buying concrete tires that way we'll really learn how to drive! Hum a tire composed out of ball bearings ought to be a lot of fun! I'm for bowling with a large ball of lard without thumb holes but the bowling alley threw me out the last time I did that. j/k Have you tried to make an old volconised rubber ball hook? It ain't no easy task even if the lane has just been oiled. Really your only going to get a small break no matter how you lift, now that being said new balls with all those funky weight configureations and drilling guides definately give us an edge that the bowlers of yesteryear didn't have. Here's my problem with the comparison. Who gives a flying if you get a strike this sunday when you bowl compared to you wrecking your car and killing a family of five because the up to date tire technology "covered up" your mistakes. On the road I don't care what covers up your mistakes the jersey wall, stability control, tire construction, or your training. ll I care about is that you don't get killed and take anyone else with you. You want to play with your skills change your tires at the track, if your out on the road find the best tire to keep you safe. Iuse so2s in the summer and blizzacks in the winter and I change them when I get any hint they aren't up to snuff. I drive slow when it rains and I take the corners slow when its cold. Me "proving" my skills on the street isn't worth killing anyone or just plain scratching my car.

The S-02's are street tires. They are not that grippy.
