So I lost my keys for my car... Don't ask, its a bizarre story. Whats my next step to take? I called Honda they want $195. Seems too much to me... Any other viable options?

Thanks!

was it the only keys you had for the car? I was in the same situation with my truck a couple weeks ago. The new key(s) need to be not only cut, but the transponder programmed to the ECU. Usually it has to be at the dealer to do the second part. I found a reputable locksmith in Chicago that was able to drive out to my location, cut new keys using the VIN, and program them to the ECU. Whole thing cost me $275. That was for two keys and the service call. Anytime its a transponder key, its not cheap.

My car is running, there's nothing wrong mechanically.

And this wouldn't be on a sunday.

I was hoping it would be cheaper than $195.

So you have a working key in your possession? If so, call around to some local locksmiths. Some of them specialize in automotive and will be able to do it for less than the dealer. The key itself is around 50 bucks, its the charge to program it that is going to vary.

So you're going to have to pay $195 to get working keys. That seems pretty reasonable - keys and transponders aren't cheap. I suggest you make more than one, so you don't have to deal with this situation again.

$195 sounds about right to me for an ecu locked key.
