Thumbs up low hum/whistle when letting off the throttle...

so i tried searching, all that comes up is the clutch buzz decel problem...
which this is clearly not, but similar...and involving a different pedal...

anyways when cruising at highway speeds 65-80mph, a low hum (sounds like an "oooooooo")
will occur any time i let off the gas pedal, and will end as soon as i step back on it

sounds like its coming from the area behind the speedo?

and yea i already know the typical quick fixes: go faster, top down, turn up radio etc etc

anyone here experience this or have any idea what it could be...

Road noise from wearing tyres that isn't audible above the engine noise?

Sounds like normal engine braking to me?

well, its a couple specific things (along with personal annoyance) that stirs my curiosity...

for one, i can totally control it when it occurs:
step on gas-sound is gone
let go of gas- sound comes back

that might rule out the tire theory....

for another, it seemed to just come about recently...
true that im mostly chugging along in traffic, but ive
had a few road trips before, and never recall having this problem...
which could rule out the normal engine braking thing

im really hoping its just another "new car phase" that
will just fix itself as the miles rack up...cuz im seriously tired of having
to take my car in for warranty stuff

other ideas and experiences feel free to chime in

thanks

I get the same exact sound, i think its normal for some our cars. I had a friend who is experienced the s2000's and said that its normal and not to worry about it.

NOt an intake noise, definitely has to do with the drivetrain.

What you are decribing is a resonance.

You can:

1. drive above the revs that cause it

2. drive below the revs that cause it

3. drive at the revs that cause it, until something falls off and / or breaks, then try to blame Honda and / or launch a class action law suit

4. I have a 6 year old Stook that rattles in reverse at exactly "X" rpm, and I choose to ignore it. There was a TSB fix for this, but I could not be bothered because a previous one for seatbelts meant having Ug and Lug at my local dealership take my beautiful car apart. Wish they didn't have - left no less than three tools "lost" in the car when they gave it back to me. I found the last one under a seat only just recently. Honda dealers. You gotta love 'em (or not).
