is low miles a bad sign??
i am looking for the perfect S2k (used)
and im seeing alot of them are in low miles...as in less than 10,000 miles
often they have 5,000 miles for 02's
how come they have such low miles?
my guess is:
A. the owners had kids or buying a house just after buying S2k
B. the car had lots of problems
C. the car was a loaner car
D. its a repo or lemon
can someone enlighten me on this?

Some people have alot of money, and just use them for a weekend drive around. 5k miles on a 2002 is not that low. I have 15 on my 00 model....
Where are you buying it? A dealer? person? I'd run a check on the car to look for accidents. You can also just ask the owner and go by what he says and how he says it, and see if he's BSin...

most people just use the s2k as a weekend or "fun" car, like me. i don't drive it daily since i have my trusty accord(plus its pretty quick too, engine swap).

micron,
Honestly I don't think you took into account with your choices those that purchase the car, drive it for a few months, and then realize the lack of room on the interior doesn't suit their needs. It's a Honda after all so I definitely don't think the lemon option is a possibility although they always exist. You really can't go wrong buying used. This engine was built to see 9,000 RPM's on a regular basis so there really is no need to worry there. If you can get an 02 at a great price I say go for it. You will get the transmission updates, glass rear window, extra speakers and such. Research the oil bolt issue and make sure when you buy to check the engine number to see if it was produced after Honda started using the revised bolts.

It's very simple. Many people that drive S2000's have another car that they use as their daily driver. I have an '01 Altima that I use to drive on any day that there is above a 0% chance of rain (which is most days). I do this because I want to keep it clean, keep from getting use to how awesome the S2000 is, and keep the miles low so that I can enjoy it for many more years than a typical car. I bought my '03 S2000 back on December 6 and have only just now hit 1000 miles. That's only an average of about 3,000 miles per year, but I think I will be driving it more this summer. I say don't to sweat it and certainly don't look at it as a negative.

If low mileage scares you, I'm sure someone on the board will sell you a high mileage S2K at only a slight premium for avoiding the low mileage one.

That is impressive Sheister. I purchased mine two weeks after you and have about 4,500 miles already. Then again I did make a trip to Atlanta and back over Spring Break which is where I accumulated 2,000 of those. I'm the complete opposite of you. In the summer I will drive it probably once a week and wait for the fall to come back around again. The Texas summer is just too much, IMO, for a car that already runs as hot as the S2K does.

HAHA...I bought my 02 in August, and have 11,500...

I bought her to enjoy and drive, not be a garage Queen. But we all have different ideas on how to enjoy our babies. But yes, I do have a beater for the nasty days.

It is a 3rd car and is only driven 2-3 times around the block in the winter.
This will keep me on a 6000-7000 mile per yr pace.
Low miles are not uncommen.
But if you want high miles, listen to Barry WY Silver/Black '01

I average 6k a year. Its not that I don't like driving, its that I haven't that far to go on any given day. Plus with the wet weather, I'm not always as excited to get out and put on the miles. Now when the sun does come out, even partly, I'm out there. And as long as it isn't raining, or sprinkling too hard, the top is always down
