LSD, never driven a car with one before
Yep. I noticed that almost immediately when I picked my car up this past Saturday.
When you go around a turn, your tires are turning at different rates, driver side to passenger side. If you turn right, the passenger side tires turn more slowly than the driver side and vice versa for a left hand turn.
The noise you noticed is the operation of the Torsen differential.

pretty neat huh? I had never driven a car with a limited slip before, and now I wonder how I ever lived without it. Once it is hot it works much smoother, I'm always made aware of it every morning on the way to work as I go around the corner by my house.

Please also be a little more careful driving in the wet than in previous cars. The LSD, in addition to aggressive S02 tires, can make the car move in unexpected ways (when you have grip on one side but less on the other).
Gowgom, if I'm not mistaken, the tires ARE slipping. In a turn, the outer tire has farther to travel than the inner tire so while the outer tire spins, the inner tire actually turns more than it needs to so it HAS to slip.
The way I understand it, a LSD is similar to the old "posi-traction" rear ends. The wheels basically always turn at the same speed.

In a Limitted slip diff, both wheels always get torque so you can launch faster, corner faster etc. But it does slip just like any diff. If you had a solid diff, your tires would sqeal in every turn and your car would handle like crap.
So its just what the name says "Limitted Slip" versus "Unlimitted Slip". It still slips.
Whats really neat is driving a car on LSD.
