M3 Vs S2000
i think the purpose of this thread is to treat both cars as a black box and see which car gets you the better time.
i agree with you though, the s2k is less compromised since the m3 was designed with luxury in mind
imo, whichever car would get you a better time depends on the track so i don't think there is any winner here

I like a covertible so it would have to be between an S2000 and an M3 convertible which makes it a major price differential like $55k to $32k.

Ok, so according to Mutlu, the price diff is HUGE! SO in my opinion the comparison is a bit unfair. If the M3 is so expensive, then we wilkl have to talk about convertible M3 and NSX. So I will choose the E36 for the "battle"..

E46M3 > S2000 = E36M3 > E30M3
I wouldn't rank them that way at all.
I think that from a driver's perspective, it's more like this:
E30M3>E46M3>E36M3
Don't know where the S2000 fits in though. I'm sure of one thing:
'04S2000>'03S2000>'02S2000>'01S2000>'00S2000
I've owned a E36 M3 and 2 s2000s. The m3 is awesome for what it is, a comfy car that can go, stop and turn really well. in terms of pure driving enjoyment, the s2000 wins. In terms of being a good all around car, the m3 wins by a lot. My M3 wasn't slower than the s2000 around the track (well, stock s2000 vs modified M3) The s2000 is more fun to drive, though. The s2000 is not nearly as comfortable to drive daily and is much less practical. the m3 is quicker around town, due to a more flexible motor, but is not as fun at full boogie.
The E46 M3 is a great car, it does everything better than the E36 M3, but is still not as responsive and fun on the track as the s2000. The s2000 is barely slower than an e46 m3 around the track, stock vs. stock. (I instruct with several clubs around here and have had quite a bit of seat time in e46 M3s) The E46 M3 is undoubtably a better daily driver and a nicer car, but not as good of a sports car.

Yeah! Now you speak my language!! I totally agree with kitwetzler (even without owning an M3)

and don't forget that some members voted before I mentioned whitch M3 we're talking about. So the diffrence could be bigger!
