It appears that fewer Honda's are being made in Japan these days. I am not sure at this point which ones are and which ones aren't. But I am wondering if any of you can actually tell the difference in quality between the foreign and domestic Hondas. I have heard of complaints on the CL Type S paint jobs to no end. So sorry to hear that. Which is why it pleases me greatly to know that the S2K is still a Japanese Honda. And to be constructed by hand in the same factory and side by side with the NSX, whew, that's something to be proud of (hey, I'd love to see an actual photo of the S2K assembly line, w/ the NSX's).

I've been going over my brand new '01 S2K with a fine toothed comb and can tell you the that paint job is immaculate and the tolerances on the body panels are extraordinary, especially, the way the hood, fender and bumpers come together. Is this is a result of the Japanese construction? What do you guys think?

I think the Japanese have a little better build quality. I can just imagine a fat redneck UAW slapping a Honda together, welding his beer can somewhere to the car instead of throwing it away...

Its easy to tell if your Honda is made in USA or Japan. If the VIN starts with J its japan made, if it starts with a 1, its USA made (thats the rule of thumb for accords anyway).

I confirm that here in europe, Honda cars coming from the england factory aren't built as perfectly as made in japan cars.

Prelude built in europe are reported to have quality and assembly problems compared to the same models built in japan. Even my dealer told me that! Can you imagine!

Yes japanese people builds cars better than us! That's what I think.

Vince

PS: No offense to English people, if the factory were in France the results would be the same.

Good question. Speaking from personal experience from what I've seen with my 00 S2K (Japan) and my fiancee's 00 Civic (North America), both are high quality pieces IMO. I also have a co-worker who owns a 2000 Accord SE (North America) with almost 30K miles and it still looks brand new, no flaws.

If there is one thing I don't like about the S2K, it is the paint on the front and rear plastic bumpers. It is not peeling or anything, but the finish isn't quite as nice as the rest of the car

VA S2K, I haven't this kind of problem, I've already heard about that on this webboard, I still can't understand how honda could have missed that.
I've allways experienced superb paint quality on my hondas.
Honda paint last years and years with a minimal care.
