Default Maintainence Req'd light

The light just started coming on. I have an 2002 Suzuka Blue S2000 purchased 7/02. Totally stock with only 6K on it. Anyone know what's going on? The only thing I've done to it is change the oil, and drive it. Winter is coming, so it's going to be off the road in a couple of months. Thanks.

I think that they probably just forgot to reset the light when you got your oil changed. Mine just came on too, but I need to get an oil change!

Here ya go.. check this thread http://forums.s2ki.com/forums/showthread.p...threadid=145056

If it comes back on I'd take it to Honda and have them check things out... Shouldn't though. It comes on more as a reminder to get the scheduled maintenance plan Honda offers.

The scheduled maintenance light will start blinking when the mileage gets close to the recommended service intervals as programmed into the ECU at the factory.

In order to reset it, follow these instructions from the thread referenced above:

1. Put key in ignition
2. Push trip reset button, continue to hold button for 10 seconds
3. Turn key to next position
4. Hold button for approximately 10 seconds or until light stays off.

The secret is holding the reset button and turning the key to the next position. It does not specify that in the manual.

I actually had to do this myself the other day and it worked fine.

Thanks. I'll try and reset it tommorrow. I figured it was probably something programed to get people to bring their car to the dealer. My S has no plans on ever seeing the dealer. All they want to do is charge a lot of money for nothing. I change my oil myself. It is so easy and simple with this car. I'm just wondering when is a good time to go synthetic.

Lester, conventional wisdom (and your manual) say that you can go to synthetic in this car after 10,000 miles.

I was figuring after 10K. I didn't see it in the manual. The dealer told me after the first oil change, but what I said about dealers previoulsly. Thanks.

Glad I actually heard that from someone. I ran into a guy with a silver S and he had MAJOR trouble with it. I think he too listened to dealer and immediately used Synth .. So since talking to him I was weary on using synth myself. Thanks for info! I'm almost to 10K on my S.... Man seems like yesterday I bought it
