I was driving my S going home the other night at 70mph when suddenly the main't req light blink about 5 times and then stop. Now everytime I start the car the main't req light will come on and then turn off (which is normal) then suddenly it will blink about 5 times and turn off again. Anyone know why this is happening? My car has 6,000 miles and J's cai. Thanks for the help!

 

You said 6,000! That light isn't supposed to come until 50,000. I'm pretty sure that one of your spark plugs fell off during the drive. It's pretty common. Don't drive your car any more and get it to the dealership ASAP. It could also be that your engine sucked up water with the CAI.. Be careful!!

























Just messing with ya. It's just a reminder that you need to get an oil change. If you already did that, then just reset the light.

 

LOL u scared me for a bit (OK more like an heart attack)! I thought oil change was at 7,500 according to the manual. The light came on not exactly at 6,000 more like 5978 miles. How do I reset the light?

 

You should change your oil at around 3,500 miles, and don't put synthetic until after 10k. You reset the light by pushing some button while turning on your car, something like that. I haven't done that in a while, but I need to. Just this morning I saw the light flashing again.

 

Your light will come on and flash at around 5900. Then it will come on solid at 7500 (+/- a few hundred). There is a link the forum FAQ note on the reset procedures for the light as well as factory recommended maintenance intervals.

 

yea, i had about 5983 on mine and it was blinking, just got an oil change and its all good.

 

I had the same problem yesterday in my '03 S2000. In the owner's manual, there is a page (I think pg.51) that show you how to turn off the maintenance light.

Do you know why the light comes on 3ngin33r1 ? In my case I had an AEM CAI installed over the weekend and just saw the light for the first time. I don't know if this my have caused the problem. Do you think my new intake caused the light to come on? Thanks.

 

It's an idiot light telling you that a scheduled normal condition maintenance interval is coming up. It stays solid when you go past that interval.

It will come on again at about 13k for thr 15k service.

If you had a light come on from a CAI install it would have been a CEL, not a MRL.

 

The maintenance required light is based solely on mileage. It is just a reminder to change your oil. Don't read into it too much and think it's some smart light that analyzes the way you drive your car or what mods you have done. This is another case where reading the owner's manual that came with your car can answer a lot of your questions. There really is useful information in that book.
