I believe that at 6k the lights starts blinking for a few seconds every time you start the car. After 7500 the light just stays on until you reset it, presumably after you've had the car serviced.

IMO, this is an annoying "feature" of a lot of the newer cars. Although it's nice to be reminded that a service is coming due, I can't believe they make it so difficult for you to either find the information, or to reset the light yourself. I guess this feature is deliberately designed to coerse you into taking the car back to the dealer to have the service done.

Does anyone know the exact criteria for when this light comes on? Last night I was driving home at about 110MPH when I see a flashing yellow light in the corner of my eye. I thought it was the check engine light, so I slowed down and was going to pull over, but then I saw that it was the maintenance light. That was really unnerving, especially since I just the valves on my #1 cylinder replaced last month.

The car had ~5950 Miles on it (it wasnt an even number of miles though. Maybe 5961 or so)

Thanks in advance.

I didn't think the light flashed when you're driving. I thought the only time it flashed was when you start the car???

No, I was definately driving. I also had (marginally) less than 6000 miles. It happened twice, about 10 minutes (15 miles?) apart. The first was as I mentioned, I'm not sure what the conditions were for the 2nd time. However it hasn't happened since.

It is possible that I hit the limiter. Could that have triggered the light?

Just curious since it was a really unnerving experience.

Interesting!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I ran into the same problem you guys did last night. I have about 20~30 miles short of 6000 miles and the maintenance light started blinking when I was driving. It lasted for a few seconds then completely stopped? At this point, I'm assuming it's normal..................right?
