So ever since I've had my S I've always garaged it at nite. It's always the same routine where I back it in, pull the emergency brake up (but not too HARD), and then of course proceed into closing it.

My garage has like a little slope inside so I make sure I pull the brake up so my car doesn't slowly roll into the entrance of the garage.,...

BUT!!!!!.....most recently I've been hearing a loud CLUNKKKKK/CLANKKKK every time I release the break and roll a bit forward to exit the garage in the morning .

WHAT COULD THIS BEEEEEEE.......it's drawn major concern from my end of course, but I still haven't deciphered what might be making this noise.

Can it be since it's been raining and freezing in Jersey so it's making the brake stick a bit more???

It's a LOUD clunk BTW.....like a detachment of some sort when I let off the brake in the morning, even yesterday after an 8 hour work shift it did it again.

my brakes are starting to squeek too when I come to a stop sign but thats besides the point, I'll make sure I get to the bottom of THAT.....but the CLUNKING fellas....HELP!!!

 

It's probably the pads breaking free from the rotors. This happens a lot with semi-metallic pads, especially after you wash the car (it causes them to rust together.)

You didn't mention it, but you should ALWAYS park your car in gear to help keep it from rolling too. The handbrake is NOT always enough to prevent the car from rolling on sloped surfaces.

I've heard this sound before, also after washing. It is not related to parking on a hill.

yup, park the car in gear and don't rely so much on the hand brake. in fact... don't use it at all, and put a choke under a front wheel instead if it's bothering you so much. If it's your garage, it can't be on that much of a slope.

Yep, I live in FL. Everytime I wash the car and go to move it, CLUNK CLUNK! I always figured it was just the breakpads like the others say. It only will happen on the initial takeoff, it did scare me the first couple times though!

What they said. The first time it did it to me was after I washed it and the next morning I went to pull out of the garage and it scared the $hi* out of me for a second. And then I remembered reading on here about it. If it has been raining like you said I am sure that's what it is. In the morning take a look at your rotors and you will see that they have a coating of rust on them.
