yeah I wonder if the fire started before or after the crash? Not a lot looks like happened to it other than going off the road and burning. Of course there is also the chance it was an oil filter not tightened and backed off which could cause both the crash (oil hitting road and getting on the tires) and the fire (commonly what happens on this car when the filter is not tightened properly). But all just conjecture on my part here.

First off, I hope the occupants were ok!
As much as this is painful to see, I wouldn't mind it so much that if my car had to go, going out on the side of the mountain on The Dragon would be the most honorable way to go

The link said no one was hurt and the car did not appear to hit any trees. From the stills in the link that Chuck S provided, I would bet, if I were a betting man, that the catalytic converter started the fire. I know it is green but the early smoke is coming from the middle bottom of the car. In one pic it almost looks like the brush is on fire outside of the car.

There are no oil spills visible on the road. But it seems a tyre left a trail in the gras, visible just in front of the guy with the white t-shirt and the black shorts.
Maybe the car was spining out of the corner, slides backwards down into the woods and then the Catalyst starts the fire.
CSI S2k.
It´s a pitty, but at least nobody was hurt it seems.

yeah good point on the cat/exhaust. That has happened to people going off track as well in the past. And that makes it even worse if they did not hit anything before going off. Imagine going off, then feeling relieved that the car did not get totally destroyed, then it burning to the ground!
