metallic rattle on accel/decel
I've noticed and it seems to have started in the colder weather is that sometimes when i'm in 2nd gear at 6k and beyond i hear sort of a metallic rattling sound and also in 3rd gear foot off the gas and RPM's below 4K i hear the same noise. I'm thinking that it might be something with the exhaust since at 2800 miles i had an exhaust leak which Honda fixed under warranty. BTW i'm at 6K miles now. Thanks for all your help

Well,
I am no tech but interestingly enough I have noticed EXACTLY the same type of sounds on my car for quite some time now...
It PISSES me off that I couldn't go for a drive with the damn tech and SHOW him EXACTLY what I'm talking about...
SO I'm still stuck with it and trying to figure it out....
the areas that I'm looking into are the following....heat shield rattling or something else as a result of certain frequencies of resonance?
though these hard to diagnose with certainty, eh?
...I also thought it may be some type of problem with the header/exhaust like you alluded.
It sounds like "nuts and bolts rattling to me" and seems to be coming from the passenger side of the car....
but then again at high rpms my senses might be a little impaired interms of pinpointing a place of origin...
FWIW, I am VERY interested in obtaining some type of resolution and hope that I will be able to use this thread, should it continue, to request a fix of some
sort....
I'll be sure to keep y'all posted if I find sometihng new and would appreciate it greatly if y'all could do the same...
btw, what's this about the clutch being the cause? is it a faulty clutch entirely or just the disk?....sh!t I don't know much about how a clutch works but I guess I'll try to search for an explaantion and that thread that wanabe was referring to?...anybody got the link offhand?
thanks,
Bpearl

I know for certain what the clutch noise is because its on deceleration, clutch engaged, not there when disengaged. you can hear it only slightly on light acceleration too, but there are others, LOL one I found was my temporary placement of the FPR . . . duh, my own rattle . . .
Oh and BlackPearl, Check your PM's

I have been told by my dealer that there is an updated clutch disk that will reduce the decel noise by at least 50%. I had the original disk replaced with the updated one and sure enough much of the decel noise is gone.
Before it sounded like as someone described "a bunch of lose marbles" this was happening when I let off the gas around 4K mostly in 1st, 2nd or 3rd gears.
I don't recall the part number but I know the updated part ends with -025 instead of -002.
By the way, my dealer replaced it under warranty.

For us owners who have had the car for over a year or so, we have put up with this noise and gotten used to it.
The rattle at 3-4K is the heat shield vibrating resonately at those rpm's.
No fix for it from the factory, but if you make a mount for the top to stop the vibrating, it will disappear.

yeah, wouldnt it still be there on both acceleration AND deceleration? Also with the clutch engaged and disengeged?
The loudest noise at 4000-3000 rpm IS the clutch, and more so after you have made a hard launch to "break in" the springs.
it is much softer with many miles on it, making the resonance worse because of the looser springs while engine braking.
The other noises could be anything though.

In responce to my initial topic. I took the car for a drive last night and this time i heard no noise at all. It seems to be related to cold temperature. It was in the 40's instead of the 30's. So with that said it appears to me that its not a permanent/serious problem, i think.
