I'm just going to throw my innocent .02 in here... I don't want to stir up trouble or point fingers, but I do think that a lot of S2000 owners seem a little arrogant. (some, NOT all) Personally, when I'm on the road, I wave at anyone in a roadster, not just fellow S2000-ers. You'd be suprised how many people smile and wave back. I think that is more the reason that the miata.net or spyderchat.com folks don't like the S2000 crowd. I don't think it has anything to do with jealousy or anything else... I know several guys with Toyota Spyders that could easily afford to have an S2000 in their garage but chose the MR-S for different reasons. Obviously, I think they're crazy, but just as most of us thought the S2000 was the best bang for the buck, they thought the MR-S was... To each their own, but there's no reason to walk around with a big head on your shoulders because you think yours is better.

Hmmm, having spent three years thinking about getting an S2K and instead having just bought a Miata, I've read miata.net and S2ki for quite a while. I don't think Miata.net posters attitude toward the S2000 is much different than S2ki posters towards Miatas. Sure, you can find threads and isolated views (such as expressed here) that show animosity. Such is the nature of these forums. But I've seen a lot of good feeling in both camps towards the opposite.
And while the S2000 has some significant advantages (power, accel, stiffer, exclusivity), the Miata has some too.
As to the cute car/girl's bit, hey, I don't mind if the ladies like my Miata! And I still see plenty of Miatas at the auto-X events.
bobbyb, I'd be interested in reading comparisons re: steering, handling, general feel of the cars.

Well I own both cars right now, and let me tell you: the miata gives nothing away in the fun-to-drive category. The go-cart feel is more aparent in the MX5 due mostly to its lighter weight and smaller dimensions. Steering feel is also superior hands down.
The S2000 does better in all quantifiable measures: acceleration, braking, grip, etc, but it doesn't do a particularly good job of communicating back to the driver. The miata is a car almost anyone can drive tail-out their first time.

I always liked the Miata, even though I never had or driven one. Well, my mom needed a new car and we test drove a Miata (she does not drive stick.) I don't think we had the sport suspension, and it was automagic, but I though it handled more like my pickup truck than my S. Had I never driven an S, i would have thought the Miata was tight, but now I am "spoiled." The Miata has a massive amount of body roll. I was VERY surprised.
Also, the auto was ridiculasly slow. I am sure it would be much better in a manual
