I was driving home yesterday and all of a sudden I see 3 sheets of ice/snow fly off of a Ford Explorer Sportrac. They disappear above my roof line. I speed up to no avail. A sheet hit my convertible top and put a 2.5 inch rip in it. Pieces of ice/snow hit my left ear. No blood but it stung like a mother. And the sound was loud. When I got home I found a marble size piece of ice on the passenger seat.

The rip is on the driver's side between the edge of the top and the first seam. From the inside the rip is just in front of the cross bar above your head.

On the bright side I get a new convertible top.

We had an ice storm last december and I was driving around in my 97 Softop jeep.

I had just pulled off a main road into a friends sub division, When a heard a extremely loud BOOM, from my jeep.

It about gave me a heart attack! At first I thought someone was shooting at me. Then I decided to be more rational and thought I had a tire blowout.

I got out and looked around. Every thing was fine. I noticed a chunk of ice about 2 feet long laying next to the jeep. It was long and round, a little fatter than a soda can with a grove in it.

I then looked up and noticed all the power lines had the same ice coating all the wires. Must have just picked a llucky momnet to fall on me

I cannot begin to explain how loud the sound was. I literally must have been inside of the drum.

Gotta watch out for the sheets of ice... i had similar thing happen last year, fortunately it wasnt in my s2000 but the car i owned before that. A sheet of ice prolly 4x5ft sheers off the side of a semi-truck and slammed into the top corner of my windshield, very lucky it hit where it did or else it could have been ugly. Watch for the falling ice!!

Hope the Explorer's insurance paid for it, since they were technically at fault. I'd hate for your rates to increase because someone else's negligence for not cleaning off their car before they drive it at highway speeds.

Of course, I doubt I'd clean my car off if we had to deal with snow & ice here, but still... you shouldn't be held accountable for someone else's laziness.
