Missing / Inefficient Oil Warning Light on S2000 ?
Seeing yet another thread on watching your oil makes me wonder !
I have heard several stories of engines getting damaged through low oil and watch the level in my own car religiously.
BUT ... doesn't the S2000 have a "low oil" warning light ? Am at work at the moment so can't check the manual but even my old Fiesta has one. Does the S2000's simply not work ? Or alert you only when its too late ?
Puzzling ...

It's not a low oil warning, it's a you've just seized your engine because you have no oil indicator. That's what I've always understood it to be. Does anyone actually use it to monitor their oil level?
S2k Commandment #1
.........
If you own an S2000, please check your oil at every fillup. If it is low, top it off. (Time spent: < 1 minute)
.........
Listen to that large booming voice from the sky, telling you the first two commandments for S2000 owners:
Commandment #1. Thou shalt check thy oil every time thou fillest up.
Commandment #2. Thou shalt look upon both sides of thy dipstick, and replenish thy oil in accordance with side which showeth thy lowest value.

We've got a low oil pressure light. All cars have that. To me it is useless because I have already been tipped off due to a lack of VTEC.
By the way, does anyone know if it's necessarily bad to switch brands of oil often? (every oil change)
I went from: Honda, to Mobile, to Royal Purple, to Mobile again,
I think I like the purple stuff.
If it's better to stick to one kink, let me know.

Oil indicator lights tell of zero or near zero oil "pressure" and has nothing to do with oil level. You can have only a qt or two left in the crankcase and still have enough to create oil pressure, however, this is NOT enough to lubricate your engine. This light tells you if your oil pump has packed it in or is about to. That's why they call them "idiot lights". As cthree just said, when your oil light comes on, you know your engine most likely has grenaded already.
Re: changing to different brands and different kinds of oil. It's no big deal to do this. It's like changing your toothpaste. Although one kind of oil may protect and work better than another, the actual process of changing to a different kind from one change to another will not cause any harm. Just because you change to a different toothpaste will not suddenly rot your teeth. Not using enough toothpaste (low oil) or brushing only once in a while (long oil change intervals) will do harm.

The tool kit in your trunk has a place that will hold a quart of oil nicely. If you change your own oil, then drop the 6th quart in there. If someone else changes it, buy a quart. That way you'll always have extra oil on hand.

. Since oil is probably the single most important thing an engine needs to avoid self-destruction, you should be in the habit of checking the oil level on any car when you fill up, not just the S2000. Take nothing for granted when it comes to oil level; a mistake is almost always fatal to the engine.
