I had my oil changed the other day (2nd change with Mobil 1), and they guy at the oil place asked if I wanted the new Mobil 1 Oil Filter.

Of course I took the bait and paid the extra $10 for the filter.

Has anyone else even heard of this? Can a filter be designed to work better with synthetic oil?

I have always heard that Honda puts out really good filters and that there is no need to use anything but OEM.

I don't think you were baited. $10 bucks for Mobil 1 oil filter is reasonable. I paid @10 bucks for my K&N oil filter too. Of course they would be more happy to see you bought an expensive oil filter rather than the cheap one. Better bottom line. However, I have read couple studies that Mobil 1 and Honda filters are some of the best oil filters out there. IMO, I don't think they were designed to work better with synthetic oil but they are just more efficient than the regular oil filters.

Yeah, what he said. I've read two independant studies that rank the OEM Honda filter and the Mobil 1 filter up at the top of the rankings. My choice? Honda. Why? Price.

Honda (dealer discounted price) - 3.00
Mobil 1 (ditto) - 7.50

Why spend the extra change?

Plus God forbid anything goes wrong with the engine if you are using Honda filters they can't say anything about not using genuine Honda parts. Just as good if not better than anything out, cheaper than the Mobile 1 filter, and no worries about warrantee hassels.

Sounds like a no brainer to me.

Good to know. Thanks. Remember the Fram filter fiasco awhile back? Fram made some filters that blew apart and consequently they were banned from race tracks. Seems that a few burst during track days and oiled down the tracks.

Point is that if you had a Fram filter that blew apart and you damage your engine you are out of luck or at least you would have a legal hassel suing Fram. If a Honda filter blows apart you are covered.

There really is no reason to use anything else.
