Is modding an S2k even worth it?

If you think you are a good driver but you have never auto-xed, then be prepared to find out that you suck. Seriously.

hehe. the one guy dyno'd his S2k at 26psi on an otherwise completely stock engine. (except head gasket to drop compression). 521whp. he could break the tires loose in 4th no problem.
Sorry, I'm new to this so this question might come across as a bit odd.

How is being able to break the tyres loose on 4th a good thing?

I'm no expert driver, but isn't it almost always better to have as much traction as possible on the tarmac?

billmesh,

On the track, you'll always find someone with more HP or in a natively better handling car. That doesn't mean you can't pass them though. You either out-drive them, out-handle them or out-brake them. Many a corvette's fallen to my civic because it weights 1500 lbs less and has a 200 HP motor. So, for me, power's not that big an issue on the track. Your skill and the handling of your car can make up for huge power differences.

Sure, as a noob you're going to get pwned but, you can only get better.

Nothing is more fun than passing faster, much more expensive cars in my econobox. It's even better when they get hit with a blue flag because I'm on their ass and they don't want to let me pass.

S2000s have great potential like Miatas, they can strip the weight down pretty good and take advantage on the track, maybe this is too extreme for your case though.

Riiiight

I would have thought that the breaking traction on 4th gear might be cool for drifting, but then again, power oversteer isn't the only way to get a drift started. That, plus the fact that S2000s don't make the greatest drift machines in the world (not that they can't drift, but there are lots of other cars that make better drift machines), really makes 4th gear chirps just that -- bling

That, plus it gives Vette owners a second thought about trying to race us on the straights

The S2000 is NOT a Civic or any other Honda/Acura sport compact...cannot even come close to a comparison. My experience comes from a 99 Si with a SCed B16 Benson block, and a hatch with built B20 turbo. Both cars were modded to the gills in ALL categories including breaks and suspension. These vehicles respond well to bolt-ons and more importantly have the support of an huge aftermarket industry. Like elmmx5 said-the engineers and designers of the S2000 have squeezed just about every ounce of performance out of the S; motor, breaks, and suspension and handling. Sure there are mods out there (definately not as much as for the other Hondas) but these mods would be for serious improvements and competition and usually co$t a pretty penny.
Basically, like others have said-its all up to you.

If you are a "washer"-cleaning products can get pretty costly and would take up a good bit of your time.
If you are a "modder"-then go ahead and memorize your financial account numbers 'cause costly mods is a specialty of the S2000.
If you are a "driver"-there is a lot about the S to be learned and mastered and will definately yield some smiles and fun. If you are a competitive driver-time to break out those account numbers. $$$

The S2000 has a LOT to offer. Learn them, master them and enjoy. Don't worry, the mod bug will bite you soon enough.
I love my S2000! and its bone stock.
