Default Model Year 2000: How many original owners?

In my spare time, I began to wonder of how many people purchased an S2000, MY 2000, still own the car?

I purchased mine in April 2000 and currently have 53,000 trouble-free miles on the car.

Of those of you who no longer own a MY 2000, why or how did you get rid of it?

I bought mine in Dec 99 - kept it until 2004 and then sold it. Why - no trunk space, so hard to use on trips, and I wanted something with a big motor. We lived in MD and took the car to LRP in CT for the vintage races on Labor Day. Trunk was stuffed - folding seats, soft sided cooler, bags, etc. My wife wanted to stop at an outlet mall in MA before we left - she bought a bunch of stuff and had to hold it on her lap for the entire drive back. And as well as it handled and as nice as it looked, I wanted something with a bigger motor, so I bought a 2001 Corvette/6 speed. That had a big motor, boatloads of torque and a larger hatchback. And it got about 29 mpg to boot.

Wow, that is nice. I love my s2000, but practically speaking it isn't that great of a car. Definitely nice to own a purpose built machine though.

The other option is get the wife an SUV like I did. Then you get to keep whichever sports car you desire-and with only minor squawking.

The point was that the S2K isn't a good fit for people who take longer trips that last multiple days because the S2K lacks trunk space. We could have taken either of the other two cars we had, but we took the S2K because that's what you're supposed to do with a sports car. September in CT is very pretty and this is sports car country. We had been going to LRP for the previous five years and we always tried to take our weekend car. The S2K just wasn't the right one. After the first year, we took it up there only one other time, using one of the other cars for the other 2 years we had the Honda. FWIW, the C5 held everything we could put in it with room to spare.

Bought mine September 2000 and still have it with 23,600 miles.
You old guys must remember some of the dealer antics from back then; 'market value adjustments' (adding a few thousand to the MSRP), the no test drive rule and "They will only be made for two years!".

You can actually travel for multiple days, weeks, or longer in a carry-on size bag and one small backpack. I use a carry-on that can double as a backpack, so I don't have to check luggage any longer. Two of these carry-on bags fit easily into the trunk of an S2000, with space on each side for a backpack or accessory bag or soft sided cooler. I recently did a three day trip in the S, packing a suit, clothes and shoes for a wedding, with casual wear the rest of the time and took food and water with me, as I was on a tight budget.

With the right travel clothing, and being able and willing to wash clothes once about once a week, it is possible to pack for a week in a carry-one size bag.

13 years and still love the thing. 54K miles, about 10% of those on track.
