I have nothing wrong with a "purist" - they're happy and content with their car the way it is. So am I. I do, however, strongly disagree with those who feel the need to put down and chastise those of us who do choose to modify their own cars.

The reason or reasons may not be so simple or easy to explain. One must admit that regardless of which camp (modders or purists), very few from either side actually feel the need to broadcast it to others in an effort to bring on attention. I'll try to answer the question by giving my impressions of why an individual from either camp would refrain from speaking out against the "other" side. I would also like to differentiate those who "start" such topics from those who only "reply" to such topics and I believe it is the former that this thread deals with.
You never get "preached at" from those who are secure with their decision to do or not do anything with their cars. They don't really care what others think or do. They are comfortable with the way their cars are because it is a personal thing that gives personal satisfaction. They are content in the knowledge that their cars are what they have made them to be or the way they have left them alone. They don't feel the need to influence others to follow in their footsteps because they don't need to gain "acceptance" for their decisions. They think that is simply "all right" and it doesn't matter if anyone else agrees. These are usually people who are mature in thinking and generally happy about their "lot" in life. Their "individuality" does not need to be appreciated by others nor do they fear that what others say or do will influence that individuality. While they can stand alone in their philosophy, they can also "go with the flow" without sacrificing their creed. Mingling in the crowd does not strip them of their uniqueness. They can "lead" without the need to wield a big stick. They can follow without feeling they are left behind. And they can be "obscured" within the group without feeling "average".
Having said this, I'll leave it to you to interpret why (in answer to the original question).
