Can't say for the AP1's but I've always assumed they're the same as the AP2's. My '04 model was very easy to use. I turned on the headlights at night and set the illumination level I wanted under those conditions. If there was some reason to run the headlights on during the day time, I just push and hold the "+" button until the instrument lighting went full on, usually 1 to 2 seconds max. Later that night, start the car, turn on the headlights, and push the "-" button once, don't hold it, and the instrumentation returned to the previous setting.
It's really no big deal.
It's really no big deal.
In AP1s, it does NOT remember the setting. It simply assumes:
Headlights ON = you must be driving at night = dim instrument illlumination
Headlights OFF = you must be driving in daylight = bright instrument illumination
You can adjust it, but you must readjust it every time you start the engine. Thus, people like me who drive with our headlights ON during daylight must press and hold the "+" button for 2 seconds everytime we want to drive somewhere.
It may not seem like a big deal to you, but when you have to do it EVERY TIME you start the car, it begins to appear stupid that they didn't design it to remember the setting.
Useless cupholders
Visors that can't rotate to the side
Windshield is too upright so it becomes a giant bug swatter
I would've liked the radio controls to be on the steering wheel
No homelink
Useless windscreen (too low)
Needs more power

You haven't clarified how this works on AP2s and I'm very curious about that. Does your AP2 remember the instrument illumination setting after you turn off the engine?
