Default Mounting side mirrors above the wheel arches

I used to have a Toyota Celica ST in the U.K. which had wing mirrors mounted over the center of the wheel arches, and could still be controlled remotely from the driver's door. I don't know if anyone else here has had cars with that arrangement, but I remember it gave you a better view to the side and rear than you get with the current side mirrors. One of the main benefits was that you didn't need to take your eyes (very far) from the road to keep checking on traffic - which is one of the major disadvantages in the way the current passenger side mirrors are mounted in all cars.

IMO, front wing mirrors also made the sweep of the car more aggressive and streamlined. However, I don't know whether sometime along the way they were banned, for safety reasons, in favor of the existing door mirrors, but I would certainly like to see how the S2K would look with wing mirrors mounted directly above the front wheel arches, just outside the hood.

If anyone has the knowledge, time, and patience, could someone here please do a Photoshop job to move the mirror on this pic of my car to above the center of the wheel arch (and duplicate a smaller one for the opposite side). If it really does look good, and this mirror configuration is not illegal, I'll certainly consider having a body shop do this mod for me.

I was thinking the exact same thing. It could really make the car easier to drive.

agreed, ppl want it to feel like a racecar more and more. might look tacky as hell, but would eliminate those blind spots.

1Y2KS2K,

Could you post a closeup of your wheels?

I don't think that I like that look. It's a little different.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I think those are stock wheels that have been chrome dipped.
