I'm still searching for that perfect deal!

Does anyone know what the Max sale price should be with all available options at MSRP?

I've talked to seveal dealers that should all have the same info but the numbers never jive!

I'm thinkin'$35,745.40 this excludes the mats and aero screen since they are standard on '01 and no block heater and ashtray since I don't need them.

Sorry that should have been MSRP+Option in the subject line.

Can't advise you on what to pay for the base car, you need to decide what works for you and what you consider ridiculous. It's only a car, a phenonemal car, but still a depreciating asset... I thought that a little over msrp was ok for me...

In regards to options, they all have their inflated prices. I copied what the honda website had as msrp* (* not including install). I then compared my numbers to the dealer numbers and the difference I took as install fees. I then took the tact of "alright, you guys charge $50 an hour for a low level tech to attach the 4 screws for the front spoiler, you're telling me it's gonna take 4 hours to do it?" He acknowledged it would not take that long and we worked out an acceptable alternative.

The dealers know how long every job takes. They have an estimated time for any and every job. Some repair work will have exceptions... It worked for me, but I think after I was done with the dealership, they changed some of their rules (not to our benefit)...

Last October I paid 36,400 including all options installed - I was told that it was sticker price of the car + destination charge + sticker price of the options + the cost to install the options. Cost to install was calculated by adding up Honda's install time estimates for each option and then multiplying the total by shop's hourly rate for installs. FYI, it ended up taking the shop much longer than they had estimated to do all of the installs.

I'm sure some others paid more and some other paid less.

I probably should have been a little clearer in my question.

I'm really trying to verify that a dealer that says he's selling at MSRP and retail on options is in fact doing so.

I have all the pricing from the Honda Web site but my numbers and their numbers don't seem to add up.

If the dealer is selling for MSRP, you can verify that line item. The problem is every dealer has their own incidentals they like to add. Options are also flexible. Some dealers charge retail, others less, still others gouge on the installation labor costs. I'll bet two people could order the exact same car from two dealers a block apart and get different pricing.

wirejock,

Are you buying at or above retail or have you negotiated that with your dealer?

Do you have a deposit on your incoming Spa Yellow and if so what are the terms with your dealer (is the deposit refundable,do you have the sale price in writing?)

How are you guys handling this part of the negotiation?

the site above is absolutely the best place to buy o.e.m. honda options ... however you should know that these prices are lower than the dealer would charge. if you can buy the car for msrp and get the options from the site above, that would be the best combination you could get. i had to buy forced options on my car, but was able to get almost just what i wanted- so i viewed the dealer mark-up on the options as an acceptable price to get the car!

You should check and compare the price of options here first:
1. The Honda Web site
2. The Honda dealer parts department.
3. The Honda-Accessories.com web site (for the same options)

The prices of 1 and 2 should be the same (or very similar) because they obviously do not include any installation charges (i.e. assume you will install yourself). The H-A web site prices will allow you to gauge how much markup the dealers make on just the plain parts (options), without any install involved.

Now, if you get a breakdown of the sticker option charges from the dealer, you can compare these against your other prices and figure out how much they are ripping you off for installation.
