Default Mugen 2200cc Stroker

Hey Guys I sent this Email to KingMotorsports:

Dear K.M.

I was wondering if you 2200cc stroker kit for the S2000 is still under development? What kind of gains are you expecting from this project? And would it be available for sale to the public anytime soon? Thank-you for your time.

This was my response:

Hello,

Thank you for your email. At this time the Mugen 2.2 engine is a design study to see what the limits of the S2000 engine are. The results are VERY impressive yielding almost 275 hp and a huge increase in torque. This engine transforms the S2000 into a world class performer. Unfortunately the cost of this engine is VERY high and Mugen most likely will bring it to market.

Please let us know if you need further assistance in the future.

Best regards,

I believe Scott is the contact here for King? Does anyone here know him well enough to get some more info. out of him on this particular project?? Specifically:

-Price?
-Availability?
-How they plan to sell this kit:
-Complete Short/Long Block?
-Crank, Rods, Pistons and Bearings? Or
-Can we send them our Short/Long block and have them modify it?

Any input would be greatly appreciated!

i bet this project will be very costly to do and only yielding 35 more hp than our stock.
might be better just getting a sc, unless you want to be naturally aspirated.

I know Scott and the answer to your questions is in his response. There is slim to no chance that this will be brought to market, so there isn't any pricing available.

There are only 3 of these engines in the world and that's about all I ever expect to see. Mugen bored and de-stroked the bottom end to get these gains, btw. And while the gains in torque are very nice, it is very unlikely to be see mass production of this "kit" now, if ever. It's just a very expensive proposition...I seem to recall that the crankshaft alone is 5,000 dollars.

Moreover, the greatest increase is in torque...not hp.

If I remember, one of the auto magazines tested the car - $55-60k I think it cost. But the performance was up in NSX territory...

Very impressive -- I've been waiting for a bore/stroke kit for the F20C!

Is the ~275 HP at the crank or to the wheels?

I think a port and polish is a better deal
1/3 the price 15-20 HP gain!
Dealer cant recognize a port and polish either

I would have to disagree with that assessment.

I don't see a 15-20HP gain in porting the head of the S2000. The stock head is ported very well from the factory. It is also not hand ported. There is very little to gain from headwork in this engine, BUT, with an increase in flow requirement, there may be necessary increases in the head to match it. In other words, on the stock 2l bottom end, there's very little to gain from massaging the head.

Dealers will recognize a port and polish on this head if they look at it. It's quite obvious.

Porsche 518- Have you actually priced out the cost of a custom crankshaft? It's about that price, no matter where you get it from. I've been quoted $5K for a custom inline 6 crankshaft from Crower before, so $5K for a Mugen stroker crank is not out of line.

Nick, hard facts one way or the other will materialize on the p&p gain. However, if you can translate flow increases directly to horsepower, then it may be possible to gain about 12-15hp. The research has been done on the head, now the development needs to start with fueling, etc. Stay tuned.

As for the stroker, there is also a 2.4l kit under development from members of this board. No idea when it'll be offered, though.
