Default Mugen Header replacement?

Has anyone ever had problems with their Mugen header? I noticed a strange vibration coming from the engine bay at about 2500 rpm, lifted the car and noticed that the heat shield around the header cracked (the one bolted to the header) and lost a piece!

In addition to that, i noticed that the brackets which hold the header in place (the ones that bolt to the car's chassis) are also cracked and would need welding.

Pretty disappointed for being a Mugen header... I'm undecided.. should I try to get the brackets wealded or will they crack again and it's better to go back to stock or buy a new one??

Suggestions appreciated

ciao

Do a little search and read, this has happened a lot A good weld should hold ok. You would think for the money you spend you would get a little better quality.

Same for me, after a few thousand miles my heatshield cracked and the bracket where it bolts to the transmission broke off. I've been running it without the transmission bracket being connected for about 5000 miles no problems yet, but if the header itself cracks I'll probably something else or go stock.

i have the 2.0 header. i bought it used and it had no cracks anywhere whatsoever. i've been using it for about 4,000 miles now and it's still in great shape. it might be a problem with the 2.2 header.

This is a common issue. The vibration os the motor causes a crack to start around the bolt holes of the shield. The shield is the same on both the 2.2 and 2.0 headers.

you mean the holes where you bolt on the stock heatshield (big one located in engine bay)?

NO, I mean the bolt holes where you bolt on the supplied Mugen heatshield. Mugen is the only vendor to supply a heatshield. And Rick's is the only vendor to allow the OEM heatshields to be mounted.

i see--mine did not come with the heatshield as i bought it used, so i used the stock heatshield. maybe THAT would explain why the stock one is EXTREMELY hard to bolt in completely!
