Default Mugen/Spoon haters unite!

First, Im not hating or trying to make enemies. I just want to stir up some healthy discussion. These are my opinions, and are worth exactly as much as anyone elses opinions when it comes to asthetics: not much.

OK... so I am fairly new to the S2K game. I came over form the VW/Audi crowd, and those guys did as much brand worshipping as anyone. Being "Euro" was all that mattered, and if that meant cramming a 215 tire onto an 11" ugly, monobloc, forged wheel, then so be it. I thought it was stupid there too.

Which brings me to my next question: Do you guys really like all this Mugen/Spoon bodykit/wheel stuff?!?!?!?

Disclaimer: I know Spoon and Mugen make some awesome race cars/products, and some of their products (Spoon brakes for instance) are race proven goodness.

That aside, some of their stuff is hideous. For example:

Mugen Wheels... wtf?!?!?! why is everyone gaga over them? Just because the offset and fitment work, does not mean they are great wheels. Im sorry, but this is not a wheel I would spend thousands on. It is too busy and the centers are huge:

This bumper looks like an S2K trying to rekindle the old Chrysler Neon "Hi" ads:

I think this is the stupidest looking bumper ever made. The lines flow like it was penned by Chris Bangle's blind cousin:

Just want to hear your opinions.

Yeah, I actually agree. I would kill for a Mugen CF hardtop...but the mugen bumper just looks silly to me. But hey, to each his own. As much as I dislike certain modifications, I can respect someone who is passionate about their car and the modifications they make to it

The smiley face bumper is ok, but the 3rd pic is hideous. I wouldn't spend cash from a hooker I beat up on either though.

I like the smiley bumper, but yes, the big name JDM companies make some weird aesthetics to me. I do like J's but they're overpriced on everything.

The big difference between these parts and audi parts (and I know because I had a '02 a4) is that the spoon & mugen parts are tested and proven. A lot of money goes into the r&d hence the high price. Audi parts on the other hand (abt, oettinger, etc..) are just expensive as hell because retailers think "hey, they spent a bunch of money on an expensive underpowered car, we can charge them a grip for parts". That's why you see $1k exhausts with no r&d.

Tested and proven wouldn't make me feel any better driving around with this front bumper. But to each his own.

I've never seen the Mugen bumper in person, and I can't really generate a strong opinion either way on it from pictures.

I think the Spoon looks good if the car's got other aesthetic mods to back it up, but I do not like the flares/holes on the lower sides.

Prices on the intakes and some of the exhausts are ridiculous... would feel like a tool/sucker buying one even if I was a multi-milionaire.

Love the Mugen wheels... probably my favorite wheels for the car although I can understand why someone who was into German cars would think the are ugly.

In my opinion, the Spoon wheels look good on a Civic but not so much on the S.
