My CEL has come on 3 times over the last 5k miles, and its only come on during the weekend. (i.e. comeon friday night and shuts itself off sunday morning....) How does it shut itself off?!? this isn't right! Honda wants $74 to run a diagnostics check on my car and says that they might not find the problem since the CEL is not on!

Has anyone ever had the CEL go off before? It comes on during normal freeway driving, and shuts off the same way a couple days later !

Anyone have a clue?

Assuming it is not the gas cap, we once had a problem with the Throttle position sensor. When we unplugged it and re-plugged it the problem went away. I understand your frustration with your dealer, bet at least they told you that they might not be able to find the problem BEFORE they took your $74!

 

Mine just came on, Dealer charged $100 to check and $120 to fix the problem, which they said was dirtly fuel injectors. Light is off now, and hopefully stays off. Mine didn't go on and off by itself though, so thats pretty odd that yours does. Check fuel cap.

 

I thought it was the fuel cap the first time, so I make sure it clicks a few THOUSAND times everytime I put it back on.

Maybe I'll try some fuel injection cleaner. Any recomendations?


BTW my car has 21k miles on it.

 

go to another dealer, your car should still be under warrenty.

 

You can always go in for an oil change and tell them to look at your car about the CEL.
Tell them it goes away and comes back.
They usually check your car out for free if you are getting some kind of service done.

 

I know, the dealer I took it to said if they found anything wrong then repairing it would be covered under warranty. I would still have to pay the $74 for the diagnostics.

 

What brand of fuel do you use? There are some real cheap brands that are either not filtered enough or just some low grade stuff.
